Director Amar Kaushik Addresses Changes Made to ‘Stree 2’ Dialogue
The film industry is buzzing with news about the latest entry in the popular horror-comedy series, Stree 2. Directed by Amar Kaushik, the film has been a topic of discussion not just for its box office success but also for some behind-the-scenes adjustments requested by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). In a recent interview, Kaushik provided insight into why the CBFC asked them to modify a specific joke involving Neha Kakkar.
CBFC’s Request for Change
In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Amar Kaushik revealed that the CBFC had requested a change in a dialogue that originally mentioned Neha Kakkar. The board recommended substituting her name with Sneha Kakkar. The reason, according to Kaushik, was to prevent potential offense.
“The CBFC members pointed out that jokes involving real people, especially celebrities, might be taken badly,” Kaushik explained. “We agreed with their perspective and decided to make the change rather than challenge their request.”
Reactions and Adjustments
Kaushik acknowledged that while the CBFC’s decision led to changes, the process was handled with a level of understanding and flexibility. He was surprised by the board’s approach, noting that they had anticipated more extensive cuts but were pleased with the final outcome.
“The CBFC was reasonable this time. They understood our point of view and allowed us to retain most of our dialogues,” Kaushik said. “We were initially concerned that many lines might be censored, but that did not turn out to be the case.”
The director emphasized that the jokes in Stree 2 were crafted to reflect natural humor rather than being inserted purely for comedic effect. He compared such jokes to casual remarks among friends and expressed his preference for authenticity over contrived humor. Kaushik also mentioned his dislike for the term ‘gag,’ which he finds distasteful.
