Prime Video just dropped the first full trailer for Elle, the upcoming prequel series to the Legally Blonde movies. The trailer gives fans a look at a teenage Elle Woods in 1995, long before she walked into Harvard Law School with her pink suitcase and legal pad.

The eight-episode series is set to premiere on July 1, 2026, exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. The show has already been renewed for a second season, even before the first episode airs.

The Trailer Shows a Different Side of Elle Woods

The trailer introduces Lexi Minetree as the young Elle Woods. She steps into the role made famous by Reese Witherspoon, who serves as an executive producer on the series through her company Hello Sunshine.

The trailer shows Elle leaving her sun-soaked life in Bel-Air and moving with her parents to Seattle. She goes from being a popular it-girl to feeling like an outcast in a new city. The two-minute clip is filled with mid-90s fashion choices, a pink pager, and Elle’s signature dramatic reactions.

One scene shows Elle’s parents telling her about the move. She immediately breaks down in a very Elle Woods-style meltdown, screaming and falling onto her pink-covered bed.

The official logline for the series says, “Before Elle Woods was a fish-out-of-water at Harvard, we meet her in 1995 in the tumultuous waters of high school where she encounters tricky friendships, forbidden romance, and questionable fashion choices.”

The Story Focuses on Family and Growing Up

The series explores how Elle’s relationship with her mother helps shape her into the confident woman fans love. The official synopsis says Elle forms a tighter bond with her mother, proving they can handle anything together. Each challenge she faces brings her closer to the Elle Woods people know today.

June Diane Raphael plays Elle’s mother Eva, and Tom Everett Scott plays her father Wyatt. The cast also includes Jacob Moskovitz, Gabrielle Policano, Chandler Kinney, Zac Looker, and Amy Pietz. Recurring roles include the late James Van Der Beek, Jessica Belkin, David Burtka, and several others.

The show was created by Laura Kittrell, who worked on Insecure and High School. She co-runs the show with Caroline Dries. Jason Moore, who directed Pitch Perfect, directs the first two episodes.

One YouTube user wrote, “I am cautiously optimistic. I can see how this could be an interesting story that doesn’t break the original canon. It’d be difficult – but it could be done.”
