Eminem Death Hoax Makes Third Appearance Online, But This Time It’s a Publicity Stunt?

Loading

Eminem fans, brace yourselves! The internet recently went into a frenzy after rumors of the rapper’s death started swirling online. But fear not, because Slim Shady is alive and well – and this whole thing might be a clever marketing ploy for his upcoming album.

How Did the Death Hoax Start?

This isn’t the first time Eminem has been falsely reported dead. This time, the rumor originated from an edited Wikipedia page. Someone changed the information to say Eminem died on December 10th, 2023, in Madison, Wisconsin. Since many search engines rely on Wikipedia for information, this caused online searches to show Eminem as deceased. Social media quickly exploded with tributes and condolences for the legendary rapper. Thankfully, fans eventually realized it was a hoax and the false information was removed from Wikipedia.

This isn’t the first time social media has been used to spread fake news about Eminem’s death. In 2023, a Facebook page dedicated to the rapper’s death gained a million likes by claiming he passed away. There was also a similar hoax in December 2022 with the hashtag #Ripeminem trending.

Eminem Turns Death Hoax into Album Promotion

So, how did Eminem react to all this? Well, it seems he decided to have some fun with it. On May 13th, 2024, The Detroit News published a three-page obituary titled “Slim Shady Made Lasting Impressions.” Fans were shocked, but it turned out the obituary was actually a creative way for Eminem to promote his upcoming album, “The Death of Slim Shady.”

The elaborate obituary detailed Eminem’s career achievements and even referenced him finding peace in the afterlife – a clever wink at the death hoax. This isn’t the first time Eminem has used controversy to generate buzz for his music. The album teaser itself featured a mock true-crime style investigation into Slim Shady’s death.

The Death of Slim Shady: Coming Soon

So, while Eminem’s “death” caused a stir online, it was all a part of a larger plan. “The Death of Slim Shady” is set to drop this summer, and fans can expect a concept album that plays on the recent death hoaxes. Whether you love it or hate it, you can’t deny Eminem knows how to grab attention!
