Emraan Hashmi’s return as Shivam Pandit has turned into a major box office success. Awarapan 2, the sequel to the 2007 cult film, released in theatres on August 14, 2026 and has collected around ₹72.90 crore worldwide within its first two days. The film saw a strong jump in collections on its second day, taking its India net total to ₹55.75 crore.

The Nitin Kakkar-directed action drama opened with ₹22 crore net in India on Day 1. On Day 2, it earned ₹33.75 crore net, marking a 53.4% increase from its opening day. The film played across 10,496 shows in India on Saturday. Its India gross collection reached ₹66.90 crore, while overseas markets added ₹6 crore gross.

Awarapan 2 Turns Profitable Within 48 Hours of Release

The film’s reported production budget is around ₹45 crore. With India net collections already crossing ₹55 crore, Awarapan 2 has recovered its production cost within two days and moved into profit. The film’s strong Saturday performance has pushed its earnings past the budget by roughly ₹10 crore.

The Independence Day holiday weekend played a big role in the film’s strong numbers. Awarapan 2 also quickly surpassed the lifetime collection of the original Awarapan, which earned just ₹7.75 crore net in 2007. The sequel crossed that figure in pre-sales alone.

Awarapan 2 Beats Batwara 1947 and Spider-Man at the Box Office

Awarapan 2 clashed with Sunny Deol’s Batwara 1947 at the box office. The Emraan Hashmi starrer came out on top, with Batwara 1947 collecting ₹13.5 crore on Day 2, far behind Awarapan 2‘s ₹33.75 crore.

The film also shared screens with Hollywood’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which released on July 30, 2026. Even in its third week, the Marvel film gave competition but Awarapan 2 held its ground.

Directed by Nitin Kakkar and produced by Vishesh Bhatt under Vishesh Films, Awarapan 2 brings back Emraan Hashmi in his iconic role as Shivam Pandit. The film also stars Disha Patani, Shabana Azmi, and Suvinder Vicky in key roles. Other cast members include Vijayant Kohli, Atul Kumar, Aniruddh Rawal, Puran Gabbi, Barun Chandra, and Rukhsar Rehman. Shriya Saran, who played Alia in the original, makes a cameo appearance.

The original Awarapan was directed by Mohit Suri, while the sequel is helmed by Nitin Kakkar. The film’s music and nostalgia factor have brought audiences to theatres.

Awarapan 2 OTT Release: When and Where to Stream Online

Awarapan 2 will stream on Amazon Prime Video after its theatrical run. The streaming platform was confirmed in the film’s opening credits. An official OTT premiere date has not been announced yet. Bollywood films usually arrive on streaming platforms 45 to 60 days after theatrical release. This would place the digital debut around late September to early October 2026. For now, fans can watch the film in cinemas.

Awarapan 2 Occupancy and Audience Response

The film recorded an overall occupancy of 59.94% on Saturday. Morning shows had 31.77% occupancy, while afternoon and evening shows saw 70.92% and 73.38% respectively. Delhi-NCR had the highest number of shows at 1,051 with 68.3% occupancy. Mumbai followed with 814 shows and 54.5% occupancy.

Emraan Hashmi’s performance has received praise from critics and fans. Some reviews noted uneven writing and reliance on nostalgia, but Hashmi’s presence remains the film’s biggest strength.

“For Hashmi fans, Awarapan 2 is a fairly decent sequel. If you loved Shivam Pandit in 2007, Hashmi’s return alone makes this worth a theatrical watch.”

Producer Vishesh Bhatt on Awarapan 2’s Success

Producer Vishesh Bhatt revealed that no distributor initially wanted to buy Awarapan 2. He called the film “not a cash grab” and said the team put their own money into it.

“If you want to watch films like Awarapan, you will have to support it in cinemas. Otherwise, how would I know that you are interested in that? Nobody in the market came to buy the film. We put our own money into it.”

The film’s strong box office performance has proved the audience’s interest in such stories.

Awarapan 2 continues to run in theatres across India and overseas. The film’s opening weekend is shaping up to be a career-best for Emraan Hashmi.
