The third Enola Holmes movie has arrived on Netflix, and it delivers a mystery that is just as personal as it is dangerous. This time, the young detective is not just solving a case; she is also trying to get married. But when her brother Sherlock Holmes gets kidnapped, everything is put on hold. The movie’s big ending does not just wrap up the mystery. It also shows a surprising choice by Lord Tewkesbury that changes his and Enola’s future forever. Here is a complete breakdown of the ending of Enola Holmes 3.

Sherlock’s Kidnapping Leads to a Bigger Conspiracy

The third movie starts with Enola getting ready to marry Tewkesbury in Malta. But her wedding day is interrupted when Dr. Watson tells her that her brother Sherlock has been taken. Enola postpones the wedding right away and starts looking for clues. In Sherlock’s room, she finds a hidden message in Morse code that says “Khost,” which leads her into a much older mystery.

As Enola looks deeper, she learns that Sherlock’s kidnapping is connected to a secret from the past. It goes back to a battle at Khost in Afghanistan, where Tewkesbury’s father was an army officer. The British army had stolen a huge amount of gold from Afghanistan to keep funding the war. When Tewkesbury’s father tried to hide the gold, the ship carrying it sank off the coast of Malta. To cover it up, innocent Maltese soldiers were wrongly accused of mutiny and put in prison.

Moriarty’s Plan to Find the Hidden Gold

The person who arranged everything is none other than Moriarty (Sharon Duncan-Brewster). She was let out of prison early on the condition that she would find the hidden Afghan gold for the British government. Moriarty knew she needed Enola Holmes to find the treasure. She had secretly planned for Enola and Tewkesbury’s wedding to be held in Malta. Then, she kidnapped Sherlock, leaving a trail of clues that Enola could not ignore. Moriarty knew Enola’s investigation, with help from Tewkesbury, would eventually lead straight to the gold.

Enola Sets a Trap for Moriarty

Enola figures out that she has been used as a pawn. She realizes that if she goes to the hidden cave to find the gold, Moriarty will be there to take it. So, Enola decides to turn the tables. She makes a plan to trap Moriarty with help from Dr. Watson (Himesh Patel) and a group of Maltese rebels. The plan works, and they manage to catch Moriarty. However, the villain escapes using dynamite. Enola chases her down, which leads her to a building where Sherlock and Lady Tewkesbury are being held captive.

The Fight to Free Sherlock

Enola gets into a physical fight with Moriarty. At the same time, Enola’s future mother-in-law, Lady Tewkesbury, is able to free herself and then unlock Sherlock’s chains. After Moriarty is finally caught, Sherlock points a gun at her, ready to shoot. He says that sending her to prison will not stop her from coming back. But Enola talks to him and tells him he is letting his anger take control. She reminds him what it means to be a Holmes. He listens to his sister and spares Moriarty, handing her over to the police.

Tewkesbury Gives Up His Title for Enola

With the mystery solved and Sherlock safe, Enola finally has the chance to talk to Tewkesbury about their wedding. She had left him at the altar because of Sherlock’s kidnapping, but there was more to it. Enola admits that she was scared. She had worked very hard to build a name for herself as a detective and move out of her brothers’ shadows. She feared that marrying a viscount would mean she would have to give up her independence and become known as Lady Tewkesbury.

Tewkesbury listens to her and understands her feelings. Then, he makes a huge decision. He says he will give up his title and the responsibilities that come with it. He tells her he does not want to live in his father’s shadow either, especially after learning about the terrible things his father did in the war. Tewkesbury decides to stop using his title and will instead go by his family’s original name, Earnest Tebbity-Gore.

A Wedding on Their Own Terms

This decision changes everything. Enola is relieved because she will not have to feel pressured to be a viscountess. Tewkesbury shows her that he loves her for who she is and does not want her to change. The movie ends with Enola and Tewkesbury having a small wedding ceremony by the sea in Malta. Enola’s mother, Eudoria Holmes (Helena Bonham Carter), comes back to officiate the marriage. Enola keeps her last name, showing that she does not have to choose between love and her identity as a detective.

The final scene also shows an old shipwreck at the bottom of the sea called “The Wrath of Adeline.” This hints that even though Enola has found happiness, her adventures as a detective are probably not over yet. Enola Holmes 3 is now streaming on Netflix.
