Five years after the events of high school, ‘Euphoria’ Season 3 has done something the show rarely doesโ€”it actually closed the loop on one of its longest-running storylines. Episode 3, which aired April 26, 2026, brought Hunter Schaferโ€™s Jules Vaughn and Eric Daneโ€™s Cal Jacobs face to face at Nate and Cassieโ€™s wedding. The conversation between them finally addressed the secret recording that caused so much damage across the first two seasons.

For those who forgot how this started back in Season 1, Jules, who was a transgender teenager at the time, met older men from dating apps. One of those men was Cal Jacobs, the father of her classmate Nate. Cal had a habit of recording his s*xual encounters, and he recorded his time with Jules without her full understanding of what that meant. The tape became a weapon, used to control people and cause pain. At the end of Season 2, Nate gave the recording back to Jules, but the two people involved never actually spoke about what happenedโ€”until now.

The Wedding Bar Scene Where Everything Changed

The scene takes place during the reception. Jules comes to the bar to order a drink, and Cal is already sitting there. Jules asks him if he remembers her. Calโ€™s response is direct and completely fits his character. He says, โ€œHow could I forget? Itโ€™s not every day you f*ck one of your sonโ€™s high school classmates.โ€ Jules quickly fires back, reminding him, โ€œAnd record it.โ€

Cal explains that he only recorded his encounters for himself and never meant for any of them to be shared. He then tells Jules that his past eventually caught up with him anyway. A separate tape involving another young person who was also underage and lying about their age led to Cal taking a plea deal. He is now a registered s*x offender, something he calls a โ€œmodern-day scarlet letter.โ€

What comes out during this talk is darkly funny in a strange way. Cal mentions that Julesโ€™s tape somehow never made it to the police. He says, โ€œSomeone must have been looking out for me.โ€ The audience knows that it was actually his own son, Nate, who handed him over to the authorities in Season 2. But Cal tells Jules he still speaks to Nate because it is easier than being alone and angry.

A Quiet Goodbye to Eric Dane in Euphoria Season 3

This scene carries extra weight because of what happened to Eric Dane in real life. Dane was diagnosed with ALS and passed away on February 19, 2026, at the age of 53. He filmed his scenes for ‘Euphoria’ Season 3 while dealing with the illness. The effects of ALS are visible in the episodeโ€”there is limited facial movement and other physical signs. But Dane was reportedly determined to keep working for as long as he could.

The showโ€™s creator, Sam Levinson, chose to work around Daneโ€™s physical changes rather than hiding them. In the episode, Calโ€™s softer speech and different mannerisms are explained as him being drunk at the wedding. This allowed Dane to complete his performance without having to pretend to be perfectly healthy.

At the end of Episode 3, the show included a black screen with a picture of Dane and the message, โ€œIn remembrance of Eric Dane 1972 โ€” 2026.โ€ Whether or not this scene was meant to be his final appearance, it works as a goodbye. Cal sees his son get married, makes a strange kind of peace with Jules, and stays completely himself until the endโ€”blunt and inappropriate, but somehow also showing a moment of genuine kindness toward her.

Jules Vaughn Five Years Later: Stronger and Different

While Cal seems stuck in his old patterns, Jules has changed significantly in the five-year time jump. The episode shows her past through flashbacks. She dropped out of art school and became a sugar baby for a wealthy and controlling plastic surgeon named Ellis. This career choice might surprise some viewers, but the show presents it as Jules taking control of her own body and life. In high school, her s*xuality was often used against her. Now, she is the one setting the rules, even if those rules involve working for a rich client.

When Jules sits down with Cal, she is not scared or shaking. She looks him in the eye and asks her question directly. She listens to his excuses without getting angry or crying. At one point, Cal tells her that high school is the best time of a personโ€™s life. Jules simply replies, โ€œI couldnโ€™t disagree more.โ€ This small line shows everything about how much she has grown. High school was a nightmare for her because of people like Cal. She is happy to be an adult, even if being an adult comes with its own struggles.

The Tape Mystery Finally Solved

One of the biggest questions from earlier seasons was what happened to the tape Cal made with Jules. In this conversation, Cal tells Jules that the police never received that tape. Jules puts the pieces together and realizes that Nate must have destroyed it. This closes the story point that started all the way back in Season 1. The tape no longer exists as a threat, and the two people involved have finally talked face to face.

After their conversation, Cal gives Jules a small compliment about how she looks. She smiles as she walks away. The whole exchange happens quietly, without drama, and without anyone else at the wedding finding out.

What ‘Euphoria’ Season 3 Does Differently

‘Euphoria’ has always been a show where storylines tend to spiral rather than find resolutions. Season 3 breaks that pattern for this particular arc. The show does not ask viewers to forgive Cal or forget what he did. Instead, it shows that time has passed and both people have moved into new phases of life. Cal is a registered s*x offender. Jules is a s*x worker. They are both making choices that society might judge. But in this moment at the wedding bar, they are just two people who share an ugly secret, finally agreeing to stop carrying it around.

‘Euphoria’ Season 3 airs new episodes every Sunday at 9 PM EST on HBO and HBO Max. For viewers in India, the show streams on JioHotstar. UK viewers can watch on Sky and NOW.
