Hulu’s crime thriller Furious delivered one of its most violent and emotional episodes yet with Season 1 Episode 5, titled “Pick a Sticker.” The episode, which arrived on August 10, 2026, saw the tension between FBI agent Alice Black and serial killer Catherine reach a breaking point. But the real story of this episode revolved around Hal, the Easton family lawyer who learned the hard way that knowing too much can get you killed.

Catherine Takes Hal Hostage
The episode picks up right after the events of Episode 4, where Catherine kidnapped Hal, played by Campbell Scott. She takes him to the home of Alden Drummings (Steve Way), a wheelchair-bound man she has been caring for while continuing her search for answers about Isabel’s death.
Alden, whose heart functions at only 25 percent, knows he doesn’t have much time left. He asks Catherine to marry him, and she accepts. But there’s a complication. Catherine tells Alden that her uncle is an addict detoxing in a van outside and that she needs to bring him into the house. The “uncle” turns out to be Hal, a lie Catherine uses to explain his presence and the screams that will soon follow.
The Interrogation Turns Brutal
Once inside, Catherine locks Hal in a room and begins her interrogation. She shows him a photo and demands details about the night Isabel died. Hal reveals that he was called by Jay Easton (Peter McRobbie) after Isabel’s death, after which he called someone to clean up the area. Catherine is convinced that Jay murdered her friend, but Hal repeatedly insists that isn’t true.
When Hal refuses to give her the answers she wants, Catherine escalates. She presses a hot hair curler against his neck, describing in disturbing detail what it feels like to be strangled. She also admits that Isabel was not just a friend — Catherine was in love with her.
Facing relentless torture, Hal finally breaks. He admits that Jay is a monster who deserves to be destroyed. He reveals that he spent years quietly collecting files, photographs, and other evidence against Jay — all stored on his computer.
Hal Offers Evidence, But It’s Not Enough
Catherine and Alden go through Hal’s computer and uncover a treasure trove of evidence. But Catherine is not impressed. She is furious that Hal apparently chose to become an archivist instead of actually stopping any of the abuse. She asks him what the punishment should be for people who know children are being abused and do nothing.
Even then, Hal refuses to budge on one point — he insists again that Jay Easton did not kill Isabel. That distinction does not earn him a pass.
Catherine calmly lets Hal get back on his feet. Then she drives a syringe into his eye, killing him instantly. The murder is brutal enough to rattle even Alden, who witnessed the entire thing.
Hal’s death serves as a grim reminder that in Catherine’s world, complicity is just as dangerous as guilt. He knew too much and did too little, and he paid for it with his life.
Alden Takes the Blame
After Hal is dead, Catherine realizes it’s time to run. She leaves Alden behind. Later, Danny (Scoot McNairy) and Choi arrive at Alden’s house and discover Hal’s body. Alden is found alive and unharmed, appearing ready to take the blame for what happened.
That development leaves Alice and the rest of the FBI team with a new set of questions about what really took place inside that house.
Alice’s Investigation Continues
Meanwhile, Alice Black (Emmy Rossum) continues her investigation into Isabel’s case. Danny advises her not to take any wrong steps toward Marshall (Jake Lacy), who is focused on his own promotion.
Alice meets another officer who worked on the twelve-year-old case. The officer tells Alice that nobody cared about the dead teenager except for Nora (Quincy Tyler Bernstine), who later pushed everyone and closed the case suddenly. However, Nora did send her notes, which included a reference to a bracelet that looks like a hospital bracelet with no number on it.
Ed George (Danny McCarthy) forces Nora and the team to focus more on Catherine and less on the Jane Doe case, which raises suspicions.
Alice also tricks Marshall by calling her at home, creating new trouble for him. In the end, she goes to the Safe Surrender location only to see Catherine sitting there — setting up what promises to be a tense confrontation in future episodes.
What This Episode Means for the Series
Episode 5, “Pick a Sticker,” marks a turning point for Furious. Hal’s death removes a key source of information about the Easton family’s crimes. It also shows just how far Catherine is willing to go — and how little she tolerates those who stood by and did nothing.
The episode also deepens the connection between Alice and Catherine. Both women are driven by trauma and a desire for justice. But their methods could not be more different. Alice operates within the system, even as it fails her. Catherine operates outside it, creating her own brutal version of justice.
