The wait for the next Haikyu!! movie just got a little easier. Production I.G. dropped a new teaser trailer for Haikyu!! VS. The Little Giant during Jump Festa 2026, confirming the film will hit theaters in 2027. The announcement came with a fresh “warm-up visual” showing Shoyo Hinata facing off against Korai Hoshiumi, the player who now carries the “Little Giant” nickname.

Fans tracking the Haikyu!! FINAL project finally have a solid timeline. The movie serves as the second chapter in the two-part film series, following Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle which released in 2024. That first film earned over ¥11 billion in Japan alone, making it the second highest-grossing Japanese film of 2024.

The Match That Changes Everything for Hinata

Haikyu!! VS. The Little Giant picks up right after Karasuno’s emotional win against Nekoma High in the Dumpster Battle. The team advances to the Spring High National Tournament quarterfinals, where they face Kamomedai High School.

The stakes go far beyond winning or losing. Kamomedai’s star player, Korai Hoshiumi, shares the exact same nickname as the player who inspired Hinata to start playing volleyball. For Hinata, this match represents a personal showdown with everything he has worked for since middle school.

The movie adapts chapters 327 and 338 through 365 of Haruichi Furudate’s original manga. These chapters cover the intense Karasuno versus Kamomedai match, a turning point in the Nationals arc that manga readers have called one of the series’ most emotional sequences.

Director Susumu Mitsunaka Returns With Full Team

Susumu Mitsunaka, who directed the first and third Haikyu!! television anime seasons plus The Dumpster Battle, returns to direct the new film. Production I.G. handles the animation once again, ensuring the same quality fans expect from the franchise.

The main voice cast is coming back. Ayumu Murase voices Shoyo Hinata, Kaito Ishikawa returns as Tobio Kageyama, and Natsuki Hanae joins as Korai Hoshiumi. The rest of the Karasuno team, including Daichi, Asahi, Nishinoya, Tsukishima, and Sugawara, will also return with their original actors.

Yuki Hayashi, who composed the music for all four television seasons and the previous film, is back for the score. Character design remains with Takahiro Kishida, who has worked on the franchise since the beginning.

A Special Episode Comes Alongside the Movie

The 2027 release brings an unexpected bonus. A special anime episode titled Haikyu!! Bakemonotachi no Iku Tokoro (The Place Where Monsters Go) will release alongside the movie.

This special covers the quarterfinal match between Fukurodani Academy and Mujinazaka High School. That match features Kotaro Bokuto facing off against Wakatsu Kiryu, two of the nation’s top aces. The special adapts manga chapters 328 through 337, which run parallel to Karasuno’s match against Kamomedai.

For fans who worried this important match might get cut from the movie adaptation, the special episode solves that problem completely.

Streaming and Global Release Details

Haikyu!! VS. The Little Giant will premiere in Japanese theaters in 2027. An exact month and day have not been announced yet.

Global streaming details remain unconfirmed. Following the pattern of The Dumpster Battle, Crunchyroll is expected to handle international distribution. The previous film released in North American theaters on May 31, 2024, with screenings in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and multiple European and Latin American countries.

The four television seasons of Haikyu!! are currently available on Crunchyroll, Netflix, and JioHotstar in India.

What the FINAL Label Change Means

The Haikyu!! FINAL project was first announced in 2022 as a two-film series meant to conclude the anime adaptation. However, the official website recently removed the word “FINAL” from Haikyu!! VS. The Little Giant branding.

This change has fans talking. The original manga includes a complete post-timeskip arc that has not been adapted yet. With 45 total manga volumes and over 75 million copies in circulation, the story extends well beyond the Nationals arc.

Whether this movie marks the actual end of the anime or opens the door for more adaptations remains unclear. For now, the focus stays on the Kamomedai match and the special episode coming in 2027.
