Harrison Ford, known for his iconic roles in films such as Star Wars and Indiana Jones, is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World. The 82-year-old actor is taking on the role of Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, the U.S. president, a character who transforms into the Red Hulk. This marks Ford’s first appearance in the MCU, but according to the actor, the role didn’t pose much of a challenge.

No Big Acting Challenge

In a recent interview with Empire, Ford shared his perspective on his role. He described playing the Red Hulk as “just another day at the office.” Despite the complex nature of the character’s transformation into a Hulk, Ford did not find it difficult. He explained, “I tried to understand the ambition of the filmmakers, and to be useful to them. I just didn’t sit home at night and say, ‘Oh, what do I want to do when I turn into the Hulk?’ It didn’t seem to me to be a terribly difficult acting proposition.”

Ford’s laid-back attitude towards the role contrasts with the typically intense, action-heavy portrayal of Hulk characters in the MCU. Yet, his approach is a reflection of his wealth of experience and deep understanding of his craft.

Director’s Praise for Ford’s Performance

Although Ford didn’t find the role to be particularly difficult, Captain America: Brave New World director Julius Onah had high praise for the actor’s performance. Onah described Ford’s work as “mind-blowing,” acknowledging the impact of Ford’s portrayal on the set. He added that everyone on set was amazed, saying, “All of us on set were like, ‘Holy fucking shit, he nailed it.’”

Onah also highlighted Ford’s ability to bring the raw intensity of a Hulk character to life, mentioning that it was exciting to see a Hulk character that was “just fucking breaking shit” and embodying the rage-filled monster fans are familiar with.

Motion Capture and Humor

Ford, known for his humor, also reflected on the motion capture process that turned him into the Red Hulk. Speaking at Comic-Con earlier this year, Ford joked about the unique requirements of the role. He said, “What did it take? It took not caring. It took being an idiot for money, which I’ve done before.” However, he clarified his remarks with a more serious tone, explaining that while the process involved actions that might not typically align with what an acting coach would suggest, he found it to be enjoyable. Ford expressed that he had “a great time” with the role and was happy with the positive response the trailer had received.

Character’s Transformation Revealed

Marvel has teased Ford’s character’s transformation into the Red Hulk in various trailers for Captain America: Brave New World. However, the full details of the plot remain under wraps, with fans eagerly awaiting more information about how Ross’ transformation will impact the storyline.

Alongside Ford, the movie stars Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson, who officially took on the mantle of Captain America in the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
