Prime Video’s hit animated superhero series Invincible just wrapped its fourth season on April 22, 2026. The finale left fans with a major cliffhanger. But there is good news for those who hate waiting years for new episodes. The show is already deep into production for Invincible Season 5. Because of an early renewal and a fast-moving animation team, the next chapter could be on your screen by early 2027.
Season 5 Was Confirmed Long Before Season 4 Aired
Prime Video announced the renewal for Invincible Season 5 back in July 2025. This happened months before the Season 4 premiere in March 2026. The streaming service showed strong trust in the show’s future. The decision followed the massive success of Season 3. That season became Prime Video’s most watched animated season ever.
The voice cast celebrated the news in an announcement video. Walton Goggins, who voices Cecil Stedman, joked that getting a fifth season meant “success”. The video also confirmed that voice recording for Season 5 was already finished at that time. This is very rare in animation. Most shows start writing only after a renewal. The Invincible team was already working ahead.
Robert Kirkman Says Production Is Almost Finished
Robert Kirkman, who created the comic and the show, shared a detailed update in March 2026. He spoke with Collider about where the team stands. Kirkman confirmed they are putting the “final touches” on Season 5.

Kirkman also explained how the schedule works. He said voice recording happens very early. In fact, the team was working on Season 5 while still promoting Season 2. This overlap means the gap between seasons can be much shorter than normal TV shows.
Simon Racioppa, another executive producer, added that they are in the “end of production, start of post” phase. Post-production for animation takes time, but the heavy lifting is almost done.
When Can You Watch Season 5?
There is no official release date yet. However, Kirkman strongly hinted at a timeline. When asked if Season 5 could arrive in March or April of 2027, he did not deny it.
“I would say that the goal is to come back in this general timeframe,” Kirkman told Collider.
Looking at the release pattern helps here. Season 3 came out in March 2025. Season 4 premiered on March 18, 2026. If the show keeps this yearly schedule, Invincible Season 5 should arrive between February and April 2027.
For global viewers, the show will stream exclusively on Prime Video. It is available in more than 240 countries and territories. New seasons usually drop three episodes at once, followed by weekly episodes.
Matthew Rhys Joins the Cast for Season 5
Matthew Rhys, famous for The Americans, has joined the voice cast. He was announced alongside the Season 5 renewal. While he might appear briefly in Season 4, his main role is set for Season 5.
Fan wikis and comic readers believe Rhys will voice Dinosaurus. In the original comics, Dinosaurus is a major villain. He is a giant, intelligent creature who believes he must destroy civilization to save the planet. This character would bring a very different kind of threat compared to the Viltrumites.
The Cast Is Returning
The main voice cast is expected to return. Steven Yeun leads the show as Mark Grayson / Invincible. J.K. Simmons plays his father, Omni-Man. Sandra Oh voices Debbie Grayson. Gillian Jacobs will return as Atom Eve.
Lee Pace is also likely to have a bigger role as Grand Regent Thragg. Season 4 ended with the Viltrumites hiding on Earth. Season 5 will deal with that threat directly.
Kirkman Still Wants Bryan Cranston for the Show
Even with the cast mostly set, Kirkman has one wish list name he keeps chasing. He told DiscussingFilm that he keeps offering roles to Bryan Cranston.
“We’re not gonna stop offering him roles. He’s not going to beat us. We’re coming for you, Cranston!” Kirkman joked.
Kirkman has tried to get the Breaking Bad star for every season so far. Cranston has turned him down each time. But Kirkman plans to keep asking for Season 5 and beyond.
