Jameel Khan Never Imagined Gullak Would Become a Cult Show

When Gullak first released in 2019, nobody expected it to become one of India’s most loved web series. The show was shot in just 15 days with almost no budget. The actors shared rooms and there were no fancy vanity vans.

Looking back at the journey, Jameel Khan says he still cannot believe how far the show has come.

“Not even in my wildest dreams did I think this would go on to become a cult show. This has been a roller coaster ride completely right from 2018-19 to 2026 and I feel blessed and proud to be a part of this show.”

He adds that he wants to continue playing Santosh Mishra for as long as possible.

“I will do whatever it takes to continue to be a part of the show and to be able to grow with it, to be able to contribute to it, and as a team give the best I can.”

Parents Must Give Their Children Space to Grow

Gullak Season 5 focuses on how family dynamics change when children grow up. Annu and Aman are now adults who want their own independence. Santosh and Shanti are learning to adapt.

Jameel Khan believes this theme is very relevant for today’s families.

“I think it’s important for parents to understand that these are different times. Kids will want their own space — not just physically, but space to grow, evolve and become themselves.”

He says parents have a clear job to do.

“As adults and parents, our job is to give them that space to spread their wings and fly.”

He also shares what every parent truly wants.

“You would want to be known by your children rather than the children being known by their parents.”

Jameel Khan’s Strong Message for Parents and Children

Jameel Khan does not hold back when talking about parental responsibility.

“If you are not ready to be parents, don’t have kids. If you decide to become parents, then you bloody well take up the responsibility and do a good job of it.”

But he also has a clear message for young people. He says many children today act like their parents have not done anything special for them.

“Many times kids turn around and say, ‘This is your responsibility as parents. What is so great that you’ve done?’”

He calls this attitude ungrateful.

The Cast Opens Up About the Show’s Journey

Harsh Mayar, who plays Aman Mishra, still remembers how simple the first season was. He said the set felt more like a theatre play. He was surprised that the entire first season was shot in just 15 days. There was only one house as the main location.

Helly Shah joined Gullak in Season 4 as Dr Preeti. She says getting a chance to work with TVF was a big deal for her. There was no second thought. Now in Season 5, her character has a stronger storyline. She says working with such talented actors has helped her learn a lot.
