Actor Kajal Aggarwal is set to appear in one of the biggest Indian films ever made, Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana. She will be playing the role of Mandodari, the wife of Ravana. However, she recently shared that her screen time in the first part of the epic will be quite short.

The actress, who has worked in both South Indian and Bollywood cinema, spoke openly about her experience on the project. She also had high praise for her co-star Yash, who plays Ravana.

Kajal Aggarwal Explains Why Her Role Has Limited Screen Time

Kajal Aggarwal revealed that audiences should not expect to see much of Mandodari in the first film. The reason is simple: the story in the first part mostly takes place before the action moves to Lanka. Since her character is based in Lanka, her presence in the initial chapter is naturally smaller.

“We’ve only filmed part one and of course, Lanka is lesser in that, and I am Mandodari. So my role is obviously very limited.”

Despite the limited role, Kajal expressed deep gratitude for being part of the project. She called it a rewarding experience to be associated with a film that is close to millions of hearts.

“Regardless of that, it’s been wonderful. It’s been an amazing experience to just be a part of something, a magnum opus which is going to be a world film.”

She also shared a personal connection to the story. Kajal said the Ramayana is woven into how her generation grew up. She recalled watching Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan on Doordarshan every Sunday.

“Ramayanam is like every house’s story. That is something we’ve grown up every Sunday watching on Doordarshan. So for me it’s something that’s so important culturally, spiritually.”

‘Immensely Talented’: Kajal Praises Yash’s Dedication

Kajal Aggarwal also spoke warmly about working with Yash, who plays Ravana and also co-produces the film. She said she has always admired his work.

“He’s a wonderful actor. I’ve always admired his work, and it was amazing to work with him on this particular project.”

She highlighted his dedication to the film and his professionalism.

“He’s so invested in the film as well. He’s extremely professional and of course immensely talented.”

Ramayana: A Two-Part Cinematic Spectacle

Ramayana is directed by Nitesh Tiwari and is planned as a two-part film. The cast includes Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, and Sunny Deol as Hanuman. Other cast members include Rakul Preet Singh as Surpanakha and Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi.

The film is produced by Yash and Namit Malhotra under Prime Focus Studios and Monster Mind Creations. The makers are planning a global release. Reports say the combined budget for both parts is around โ‚น4,000 crore (approximately $500 million), making it one of the most expensive Indian films ever made.

Kajal described the film as a technically superior production.

“It’s just something India has never witnessed before. And as actors, it’s pretty much the first time that we’re doing something like this.”

Release Dates for Ramayana Part 1 and Part 2

The first part of Ramayana is scheduled to release in theatres during Diwali 2026. The second part will follow a year later, arriving on Diwali 2027. The makers have released a glimpse that introduced the film’s visual world, showing Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama and the setting of Ayodhya.
