Filmmaker Kunal Kohli, known for romantic hits like Hum Tum and Fanaa, has made a funny request to Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe. He wants the officer to extend his food safety inspections beyond restaurants and hotels to Indian households. Kohli believes that a raid on kitchen shelves and refrigerators across the country would reveal many expired food items that people have kept for years without using.
The director shared his suggestion on Instagram on August 23, 2026, and it quickly caught attention online. His post comes at a time when Tukaram Mundhe is leading a major crackdown on food adulteration and safety violations across Maharashtra.
Kohli’s Funny Request to Tukaram Mundhe
Kunal Kohli took to his Instagram stories with a light-hearted message for the FDA commissioner. He jokingly asked Mundhe to raid kitchen shelves and refrigerators in Indian homes. The filmmaker explained that such a drive would likely uncover food items that have been sitting untouched for years.
“I request Tukaram Munde to raid kitchen shelves & refrigerators in Indian Households across the country. There will be expired items, from years ago, neatly & safely preserved, the bottles & packets wiped clean every month & put back on the shelf or refrigerator never to be used again.”
Kohli pointed out a common habit in many Indian households. People often keep bottles and packets of food items long after they have expired. They clean them regularly and put them back on the shelf, but never actually use them. The director turned his joke into a challenge for social media users. He encouraged everyone to do their own “Tukaram Munde cleaning” at home.

During these checks, the FDA has taken strong action against several well-known eateries in Mumbai. Some have received improvement notices, while others have had their licenses suspended. The inspections have covered many food safety issues, including adulterated milk, hygiene standards at restaurants, junk food sold near schools, and the sale of banned gutka and tobacco-containing pan masala.
