The Essence of a Go Master
“The Match,” directed by Kim Hyung Joo, tells the story of Cho Hun Hyun, played by Lee Byung Hun, and his student, Lee Chang Ho, played by Yoo Ah In. The new posters display Lee Byung Hun’s dedication, with key phrases like “dispassion” and “I’ve staked everything” emphasizing the high stakes of the game.
Rigorous Preparation

He followed the advice of grandmaster Cho Hun Hyun, who stressed the importance of careful stone placement, saying, “Do not place the stones carelessly.”
Lee Byung Hun shared insight into his preparation, saying,
“They say that if a Go master’s first move is strong enough to make the opponent feel like they’ve already lost, it can shake their confidence. I spent a lot of time thinking about that.”
He also spoke about the challenges of portraying a Go player’s mindset, adding,
“Conveying the mindset of Go players with a calm and expressionless demeanor throughout a match was one of the biggest challenges for me.”
“The Match” is scheduled for release in theaters on March 26.
