BLACKPINK’s Lisa recently shared her experiences as a CEO and the challenges of managing her independent label, LLOUD, during a candid conversation on YouTube. She discussed the high costs of music video production and her efforts to stay within budget while meeting fan expectations.

Lisa’s Journey as a CEO

On February 28, Lisa appeared on the YouTube channel ZIP DAESUNG in a video titled ‘BangPink in Your Area Part 2 | Now Only Two Left.’ During the episode, she opened up about her journey as the founder of LLOUD, the independent label she established last year.

When asked by Daesung about the challenges of running her own agency, Lisa revealed that one of the biggest hurdles is managing the costs of music video production. She admitted, “Music video production costs… they’re no joke.”

The Reality of Music Video Budgets

Daesung, who is also a veteran in the K-pop industry as a member of BIGBANG, pointed out that both BIGBANG and BLACKPINK have historically produced large-scale music videos under YG Entertainment. He then inquired about the filming of Lisa’s recent music video for her single ‘Rockstar.’

Rumors had circulated that Lisa rented an entire street for the shoot, but she clarified, “We didn’t actually rent it. We went there at dawn, and luckily, the rain had just stopped. The ground was wet and reflective, and since no one was around, the video turned out great.”

Negotiating Costs and Staying Within Budget

Lisa also shared her creative process for music videos. She explained, “The director comes up with the storyline for the music video, and if I have any ideas, I suggest them.” When Daesung jokingly asked if she tries to negotiate and cut costs, Lisa laughed and admitted, “I always ask for discounts.”

However, she acknowledged the difficulty of staying within budget. “The costs always end up exceeding expectations because I want to meet fans’ expectations,” she said. This highlights the pressure artists face to deliver high-quality content while managing financial constraints.

Upcoming Projects and Performances

Lisa’s appearance on the show coincided with the release of her first full-length album, ‘Alter Ego,’ on February 28. Fans are eagerly anticipating her upcoming performances, including a stage at the Academy Awards ceremony in March and a solo act at Coachella in April. These milestones mark a significant step in her career as a solo artist and CEO.

Balancing Creativity and Finances

Lisa’s candid discussion sheds light on the behind-the-scenes challenges of running an independent label. From negotiating production costs to ensuring high-quality output, her journey as a CEO reflects the complexities of the entertainment industry. Her ability to balance creativity with financial practicality is a testament to her dedication to her craft and her fans.
