The landmark 450th episode of Family Guy, premiering in February, will feature a long-awaited conversation between Lois Griffin and her baby son, Stewie.

For the first time in the show’s 24-season history, Lois will be able to understand what Stewie is saying. This major story development comes about through a bizarre and humorous set of circumstances involving Brian’s ill-advised snack choices.

“They talk about the stuff that fans would want them to talk about โ€” the history of their relationship, Stewie’s desire to kill her, his opinion of her, hers of him,” said executive producer Richard Appel.

When and Where to Watch the Milestone Episode

The 450th episode, titled “The Edible Arrangement,” will debut on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.

For cord-cutters and streamers, the episode will be available to watch on Hulu starting the following day, Monday, February 16. This episode serves as the premiere for Family Guy‘s 24th season.

The “Bizarre Circumstances” Leading to a Historic Talk

So how does a mother finally break a 23-season communication barrier with her genius, often homicidal, infant son? The answer involves the family dog and some misplaced treats.

The episode begins with Brian visiting a dispensary and bringing home cannabis-infused gummies. Stewie, thinking they are ordinary candy, eats them. When authorities discover what happened, Lois is deemed an unfit parent, leading to Stewie being placed in temporary foster care with the Swanson family.

This chaotic setup ultimately leads to the moment fans have never seen: Lois and Stewie, both under the influence of the gummies, having a clear, two-way conversation for the first time.

What Lois and Stewie Will Finally Discuss

According to the show’s producers, this isn’t just a quick joke. The episode devotes significant time to a real character discussion that has been building for over two decades.

Executive producer Alec Sulkin described the episode’s third act as “basically a two-character play”. The conversation will go beyond simple callbacks and address the core of their strained relationship.

The voice of Lois, Alex Borstein, revealed that the scene was performed live in a recording session and found it to be “very touching” and “really interesting”. She noted that the actors did “actual acting” for the sequence, highlighting its significance.

Why the Show Waited 450 Episodes for This Moment

Fans might wonder why it took so long for this obvious story idea to happen. The producers believe the long wait makes the moment more meaningful.

Richard Appel explained that doing this story in Season 3 or 4 would not have had the same impact. After 449 episodes of established history, conflicts, and quirky interactions, the writers now have a deep well of material for the two characters to finally address.

The extensive history allows them to explore the “intricacies and realities of Lois and Stewie’s relationship, resentments, and past experiences” in a substantial way.

A Historic Night for Fox Animation

The airing of Family Guy‘s 450th episode is part of a major night for Fox’s animated lineup. It will follow the 800th episode of The Simpsons, which is also that show’s season finale, creating a unique double milestone event on the same network night.

Following this special night, Family Guy will continue its 24th season as part of Fox’s “Animation Domination” block, paired with American Dad! in subsequent weeks.

The show’s future is secure, as Fox recently renewed Family Guy for an additional four seasons, guaranteeing new episodes through at least a 27th season.
