The Yellowstone universe keeps growing, and the latest spin-off Marshals is giving fans a lot to talk about. The show follows Kayce Dutton (played by Luke Grimes) as he leaves ranch life behind to join an elite team of U.S. Marshals. The series premiered on CBS on March 1, 2026, and new episodes drop every Sunday.

In the most recent episode, titled “Playing With Fire,” viewers met a character who clearly shares a secret history with Kayce. This mysterious man is Neil Lamb, and he is played by actor Sterling Jones. You might remember Jones from a very different kind of movie: Greta Gerwig’s blockbuster hit ‘Barbie’.
Who Is Neil Lamb in ‘Marshals’?
Neil Lamb is not a new villain with a big army or fancy weapons. He is actually more dangerous to Kayce because of what he knows. In Episode 10, a prison bus crashes after hitting a rockslide. Three prisoners escape, and Kayce immediately recognizes one of the names: Neil Lamb.
It turns out Lamb used to work as a hand on the Yellowstone Ranch. While fans of the original show never saw him before, Marshals confirms he worked for the Dutton family and saw things he was not supposed to see. Kayce chases Lamb through the freezing Montana woods not just because Lamb is an escaped prisoner, but because Lamb knows a secret that could ruin Kayce.
The episode hints that the secret is connected to “The Train Station,” the remote spot near the Wyoming–Montana border where the Duttons historically got rid of their enemies. Lamb tells Kayce:
“Even as a boy, you were a different sort of man than your father. You don’t have to solve this problem the way he would.”
Lamb tries to make a deal. He says he will forget everything he ever saw at the ranch if Kayce helps him cross the border to safety. Kayce considers it, but he keeps his gun pointed at Lamb. He knows that if the police catch Lamb again, the prisoner will start talking to save himself. Just as Kayce is about to pull the trigger, his team leader Cal arrives and stops him.

From ‘Barbie’ to the Badlands: Who Is Sterling Jones?
For many viewers, seeing Sterling Jones show up in a tense Western drama was a surprise. Jones is best known for playing a Mattel agent in the 2023 movie ‘Barbie.’ In that movie, he was part of the corporate team chasing Margot Robbie’s character.

But Jones is not new to serious TV dramas. He has built a solid career playing law enforcement and military roles. He played Captain Dale Martens on ‘NCIS’ and Marine Major Jonathon Perkins on ‘NCIS: Los Angeles.’ He also appeared as Peter Martin on ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ playing the father of a sick child.
His other work includes roles in ‘S.W.A.T.,’ ‘Found,’ and ‘Razor Tongue.’ This background makes him a good fit for the gritty world of Marshals, even if his most famous role is in a bright pink movie.

What Happens Next for Neil Lamb?
Episode 11 of Marshals is coming out on May 10, 2026. The episode is titled “On Thin Ice,” and the situation looks bad for Kayce and his team. Kayce, Cal, and Neil Lamb are all trapped together in the cold mountains after the events of Episode 10.
The upcoming episode will likely answer two big questions: What exactly does Neil Lamb know about Kayce’s past? And will Kayce break the law to keep his family’s secrets safe, or will he find a different way out? With Cal watching him closely, Kayce cannot handle this problem the way his father John Dutton would have.
Marshals airs Sunday nights on CBS. Viewers can also stream it the next day on Paramount+. For audiences in the UK, the show is available on Paramount+ starting at 8 AM GMT every Monday. Australian viewers can watch on Paramount+ as well, while fans in Canada can catch it on CBS or Paramount+.
