Marshals Season 2, Episode 5, titled “Secret Weapon,” aired on CBS on November 1, 2026, and wasted no time resolving the explosive cliffhanger that closed the previous week. Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) and Andrea Cruz (Ash Santos) walked away from Rudy Carpenter’s suicide bomb with only minor injuries, but the danger was far from over. A much larger device built from stolen ANFO explosives was still on the loose, sending the team on a frantic hunt across Montana that ended with a deadly showdown in Helena and a quiet, emotional confession that left Kayce’s front door open for something new.
What Happened Previously in Marshals Season 2
Season 2 of Marshals has been slowly pulling Kayce Dutton deeper into the world of federal fugitive hunting while his new team wrestles with personal crises. Cal Calvin (Logan Marshall-Green) is battling cancer and struggling to accept that he needs to step back from work. Belle Skinner (Arielle Kebbel) is being hounded by a man named Mitch Polson over a gambling debt that has already reached her family. Miles Kittle (Tatanka Means) is carrying the weight of Cal’s diagnosis while keeping it from Maddie (Morgan Lindholm), the woman he is seeing. Andrea Cruz has been quietly falling apart, haunted by her kidnapping at the hands of the Clegg family in Season 1 and throwing herself into off-hours fugitive hunting and her father’s murder case as a way to avoid the trauma.
Episode 4, “Blast Radius,” ended with Kayce and Andrea following Rudy Carpenter into a barn. Carpenter detonated a bomb, taking himself out and leaving the two marshals’ fate hanging for a week.
Kayce and Andrea Walk Away from the Blast
The episode opens with Kayce and Andrea emerging from the wreckage of Carpenter’s hideout. Carpenter is dead, but the two marshals are alive with only bumps and bruises. Relief does not last long. The team searches the area and finds eight barrel lids from ANFO containers along with fresh tire tracks. The bomb that killed Carpenter was not the big one. A much larger device has already been assembled and moved by an unknown accomplice.
Fingerprints on the barrel lids lead the team to Derek McCoy, a man with a deep grudge against the government and a family that treats Carpenter and Derek as heroes. The marshals raid the McCoy property, but Derek is gone. A man bolts for the basement, and Andrea gives chase. She freezes on the stairs, and the suspect escapes. Kayce pursues him into a nearby barn, and the floor collapses beneath them both.
Trapped Underground with a Hostile Witness
Kayce is stuck in the rubble with Will McCoy (Keean Johnson), Derek’s brother. Will’s leg is badly broken, and he refuses to help move the beam blocking their exit. A gas line has ruptured, and a severed power line is sparking nearby. Kayce’s communications are down, and the barn is far enough from the main house that the rest of the team has no idea what has happened.
Kayce tries a different approach. He tells Will that he reminds him of his middle brother, Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley), a man who never quite fit in and spent years on the bad end of family beatdowns. Kayce mentions his sister, Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly), and how she made Jamie’s life hell. Will snaps back, but Kayce presses on, telling him that Beth would eat him for lunch and that Jamie eventually learned to stand up for himself. The story gives Will enough to start helping, and the two manage to escape the collapsing barn.

Belle Uncovers the Family Secret
Back at the McCoy house, the marshals separate the family members and question them one by one. The family’s hatred of the government makes it nearly impossible to get straight answers. Doreen McCoy lets slip that Derek told the family to watch the 6 p.m. news, a hint that something big is planned for the evening.
Belle digs into the family connections and finds that Derek’s brother Johnny works as a dispatcher at Springland Trucking, a company licensed to haul ANFO to suppliers in the area, including the facility Carpenter robbed. Belle also discovers that Johnny’s ten-year-old son Mason is actually Derek’s biological child, not Johnny’s. She speaks to Mason, who reveals that Derek told him he was going away.
Andrea uses that information to pressure Emma, Mason’s mother. Emma breaks and admits that Derek was blackmailing her. He forced her to access Johnny’s dispatch account and give him the shipping details for the ANFO. She also reveals the target: Morris Bank & Trust in Helena, the bank that foreclosed on the McCoy family’s land. Derek wants revenge.
The Race to Helena and the Hotel Banquet
The marshals rush to Morris Bank & Trust in Helena and evacuate the building, but Kayce and Andrea find only an empty white box truck in the underground parking garage. It is the wrong vehicle. The team realizes the bankers are not at the bank at all. They are gathered at a banquet for regional lenders at the nearby Wexler Hotel, surrounded by civilians. Derek is heading there with a truck full of explosives.
Belle spots a white GMC box truck stuck in traffic near the hotel. The team arranges for the traffic light to stay red, keeping Derek stopped. Andrea approaches from the passenger side and creates a distraction while Kayce and Miles move in from the driver’s side. Derek makes a sudden movement, and the marshals open fire. He is killed before he can detonate the bomb. The immediate threat is over.
Andrea Steps Up and Breaks Down
Back at headquarters, Cal announces that Andrea will serve as acting team leader while he takes medical leave for his cancer treatment. The team backs the decision, but Andrea is not sure she is ready.
That night, Andrea shows up at Kayce’s door in tears. She admits that she froze during the raid and that she has been having nightmares. The kidnapping by the Cleggs left her with what she describes as PTSD, and her off-hours fugitive hunting and her push to reopen her father’s murder case were ways of avoiding the trauma. Kayce apologizes for not noticing how much she was struggling while he was focused on Cal’s diagnosis. He offers to make her tea, but by the time he turns back around, Andrea has fallen asleep on his couch. He covers her with a blanket and sits nearby, watching over her as she finally rests.

What Happened to Each Character in “Secret Weapon”
Kayce Dutton survived the bomb, rescued Will McCoy from a collapsing barn by opening up about Jamie and Beth, and helped stop Derek McCoy before he could blow up a hotel full of bankers. His quiet moment with Andrea at the end of the episode leaves his personal life open in a way it has not been since he arrived in Marshals.
Andrea Cruz froze during the basement chase, confronted her PTSD in a late-night confession to Kayce, and was named acting team leader in Cal’s absence. Her struggles with trauma are now out in the open, and her ability to lead will be tested immediately.
Belle Skinner uncovered the McCoy family’s connection to the stolen ANFO, found the biological link between Derek and Mason, and tracked Derek’s truck through traffic. She also confronted Mitch Polson over her gambling debt, telling him that her family is off-limits and hinting that she knows about his daughter’s legal troubles.
Cal Calvin is facing reality. He named Andrea as his temporary replacement and will be away in Utah seeing a cancer specialist. His relationship with Maddie is going well, but he still has not told her about his diagnosis.
Miles Kittle helped take down Derek at the traffic stop. He is still hiding Cal’s cancer from Maddie, and White Bear has asked him to back a campaign against Thomas Rainwater for tribal chairman, a request that could pull him into a political fight.
