Edwin noticed what was happening. Later, Alfie saw it too. Matty refused to let Alfie interact with the AI Ellie, which created distance between them instead of bringing the family closer together.
Matty did not want to repeat past mistakes. Her guilt around Ellie continued to drive her choices. So when Joey finally reached out and asked to meet, she did not shut him out. Edwin was completely against it because he no longer trusted Joey. But Matty went anyway.
When they met, Joey admitted he had relapsed. He confessed that he had lied. He said he wanted to fix things. Edwin was furious, especially when Joey started talking about what he was “owed.”
By the end of their conversation, Joey came back into the picture just enough for Alfie to breathe again. But the damage had already been done.
Olympia’s Court Case Falls Apart Piece by Piece
While the family drama unfolded, Olympia dealt with a legal case that was just as unstable. A former student came to her with a hit-and-run case involving his father’s death.
Olympia entered the courtroom already on thin ice. The facts did not fully support her client’s side, and everyone could see it. She fought hard, but she had to stretch whatever evidence she had. It was not her strongest moment in court.
The situation got much worse when the client lost control during a meeting. He lashed out and created a scene that made the entire case look weak. All of Olympia’s credibility seemed to disappear in that single moment.
Matty worked the same case from a different angle. She visited a tattoo shop, and that trip ended up providing the clue they needed. Matty noticed something at the shop that changed how the team saw the hit-and-run. The real version of events came out, and the case closed. But the victim’s son did not get the closure he had hoped for.
Debra Palmer Returns and Puts Everyone at Risk
Debra Palmer, played by Melanie Lynskey, returned in Episode 14. And her arrival was not something the team could control.
They had planned to meet Debra on their own terms. Instead, she showed up at the firm unexpectedly. Matty and Olympia literally had to hide when they saw her in the lobby. If Debra connected the dots, everything they had been building for months would fall apart.
Julian was tasked with finding out why Debra came to the firm. She claimed it was for a tax issue related to her company, Eternal Glamour. She said she figured her angel investor could help. Julian offered his assistance, mostly to steer the situation away from danger.
The team later pulled off a risky move to get Debra’s records. Edwin showed up for a fake tax audit. Julian argued with “Arthur” to distract Debra, which gave Edwin time to take what they needed. It was a close call. Shae almost caught Edwin, but Matty stepped in. She calmly asked Shae not to ask questions because she did not want to lie. Shae agreed to help because Matty had shown up for her before.
Matty Finally Says Goodbye to AI Ellie
Matty faced her own breaking point in Episode 14. After multiple warnings from Edwin and even Olympia, she realized how dependent she had become on the AI version of Ellie. She was using the simulation as an emotional crutch, and it was not healthy.
Olympia caught Matty talking to the AI Ellie at one point. Matty admitted that knowing this version of Ellie would not use drugs made her feel better. Olympia worried that using the platform this often was not good for her. Matty wanted to know if Ellie blamed her for what happened. But she also did not want to say goodbye again.
By the end of the episode, Matty made a decision. She got a catbird tattoo and used that moment to say a proper goodbye to the AI Ellie. She finally stopped using the simulation.
The Team Finds the Proof Against Senior
After going through Debra’s records, the team finally found what they had been searching for all season. Proof that connected Senior to hush money. The literal evidence they had been chasing for months.
For the first time in a long while, they actually won.
Edwin softened and apologized to Joey. Joey also apologized to Alfie, which gave Alfie some closure after spending most of the episode thinking the worst.
Sarah still had not decided about her job offer. She asked for more time, and Olympia agreed to wait. Sarah set a clear timeline for herself, saying she would take the full two weeks until the merger to make her choice. Olympia told her she was worth the wait.
Every character went through a struggle in Episode 14. Alfie’s fear, Olympia’s shaky case, and the team’s risky move against Debra all happened at once. Somehow, it all worked out toward the end.
