Memory Loss Tragedy Haunts Anu Agarwal’s ‘Aashiqui’ Journey

Memory Loss Tragedy Haunts Anu Agarwal's 'Aashiqui' Journey

Loading

Bollywood actress Anu Agarwal, who rose to fame with the iconic 90s film ‘Aashiqui,’ shared a heart-wrenching tale of memory loss due to a tragic accident that wiped out not only her personal memories but also any connection with the blockbuster movie, including its sequel ‘Aashiqui-2.’

Anu, who debuted in the film industry with ‘Aashiqui’ in the 90s, faced a life-altering accident that left her grappling with amnesia for an extended period. Recalling the aftermath, she disclosed in an interview with Indian Express that her mother showed her the original ‘Aashiqui’ after the accident, but Anu failed to recognize herself in the film. Astonishingly, even watching ‘Aashiqui-2’ didn’t trigger any familiarity.

“I couldn’t recognize myself; I was looking at the actress on screen like a child,” Anu expressed, revealing the extent of her memory loss.

The accident not only erased personal memories but also wiped away all recollection of the scenes from ‘Aashiqui.’ Anu narrated that her mother attempted to jog her memory by explaining the connection between the two films, but Anu remained detached. “My condition was so bad that I had forgotten even numbers – 1, 2, 3,” she added.

Despite the memory loss, Anu admitted that the emotional impact of ‘Aashiqui’ was so strong that she could feel the emotions portrayed in the film, even though she couldn’t relate to herself on screen.

Following the accident, Anu’s appearance underwent a significant transformation. In 1996, she stepped away from the limelight. Subsequently, in 1999, a horrific accident further changed the course of her life. Anu spent 29 days in a coma, losing her memory once again.

Currently, Anu Agarwal is making efforts for a comeback in the industry. She is reading scripts for potential film projects, striving to revive her acting career. The last film she appeared in was the 1996 release ‘The Return of Jewel Thief,’ marking the end of her Bollywood journey at that time.
