The big-screen version of the popular crime series has arrived in theatres. Mirzapur: The Movie , starring Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, and Divyenndu, opened on September 4, 2026, and has already made a strong impact at the box office. The film, which brings the world of guns, power, and revenge from the OTT platform to the big screen, has pulled in a large number of viewers on its first day.
By 3 PM on its opening day, the movie had collected ₹9.35 crore net in India. As the evening and night shows began, the numbers went up. According to latest updates, Mirzapur: The Movie has crossed ₹16 crore in gross collection on day 1. The India net collection reached ₹11.97 crore with over 6,482 screenings across the country. The film is being played in 3,184 shows, and the final numbers for the day are still expected to come in after 10:30 PM.
A Strong Opening for a Non-Star Led Film
Trade experts had earlier estimated an opening of ₹18-20 crore for the film. But the strong advance bookings and the response from the audience have pushed those numbers higher. The film is now expected to finish its first day with around ₹20-25 crore. Some reports even suggest it could touch ₹30 crore if the word of mouth remains positive.
What makes this opening special is that Mirzapur: The Movie does not have a big Bollywood star like Shah Rukh Khan or Salman Khan. Yet, it is giving Bollywood its biggest ever non-star-led opening day. The film has done particularly well in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Delhi——the regions that have always loved mass action films. The morning shows recorded an occupancy of around 26%, which is a healthy number for a film of this size.
Advance Booking Numbers Show Strong Interest
Before the film even released, the advance booking numbers had already shown how much the audience was waiting for this movie. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Mirzapur: The Movie sold 3,27,975 tickets for its opening day across Hindi and Telugu 2D shows. The advance collection stood at ₹9.19 crore excluding block seats. When block bookings were added, the number went up to ₹12.55 crore.
The film’s advance booking performance has put it in the list of Bollywood’s 3rd best opening-day pre-sales of 2026. It even crossed the final pre-sales gross collection of Emraan Hashmi’s Awarapan 2, which was also a sequel with a big star. The film sold over 2.1 lakh tickets before release, with Delhi-NCR emerging as a key market.
The Cast and the Story
The film brings back the characters that fans have loved since the series started on Amazon Prime Video in 2018. Pankaj Tripathi returns as Kaleen Bhaiya, the understated yet powerful mafia don of Mirzapur. Ali Fazal is back as Guddu Pandit, the fierce and vengeful protagonist. Divyenndu reprises his role as Munna Bhaiya, Kaleen Bhaiya’s unpredictable son.
New faces have also joined the cast. Jitendra Kumar plays Bablu Pandit, Guddu’s analytical brother. Ravi Kishan appears as Babban Yadav, a powerful new figure who adds fresh tension to the fight for the throne. The supporting cast includes Rasika Dugal as Beena Tripathi, Shweta Tripathi as Golu Gupta, and Abhishek Banerjee as Compounder.
The movie is directed by Gurmeet Singh and written by Puneet Krishna. It is produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under Excel Entertainment, along with Amazon MGM Studios. The story takes the franchise’s central battle for power into a new chapter, with old rivalries refusing to disappear and new threats entering the picture.
The Hindi Version Leads the Way
The film was released in Hindi and a Telugu dubbed version. But the Telugu version has not done well so far, earning under ₹10 lakh. The bulk of the earnings have come from the original Hindi version, which was expected. The Hindi release collected ₹9.28 crore by 3 PM, with occupancy at 30%.
A Holiday Advantage
The film released on a holiday – Janmashtami – which has given it an advantage when it comes to spot bookings. Even though the movie has an adult certification, the loyal fan base of the series, combined with the holiday, has given Mirzapur: The Movie a real shot at a big opening. The film also faces little competition at the box office, following the recent performance of other big releases.

What the Makers Said
“The experiment was new, and hence, the trade was tentative. Can a web series, no matter how popular, translate into a film that people would want to pay for and go watch in theatres? Mirzapur has answered that, and how.”
The film’s performance on day 1 has shown that the audience is ready to pay for a theatrical experience of a story they first watched on their screens at home. The reviews have been positive, and the film is expected to see an upswing in footfall for the evening and night shows. The final Day 1 figures will be known after 10:30 PM. But one thing is clear – Mirzapur has made a strong entry into the world of cinema.
