The second season of Apple TV+‘s ‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’ wrapped up on May 1, 2026, delivering an action-packed finale where Kong faced off against a new Titan named Co‘cai. But the big surprise came when the Skull Island guardian stepped aside, choosing mercy over destruction.

The finale, titled “Where We Belong,” brings viewers back to Skull Island for the long-awaited fight between Kong and Titan X, also known as Co’cai. The episode wraps up a season filled with time-travel confusion, family drama, and giant creatures destroying things. But unlike typical monster showdowns, this one ends with a surprisingly soft moment.

The Big Fight Everyone Expected Finally Happens in Monarch Season 2 Finale

Co‘cai first appeared in the season 2 premiere when she escaped from the Axis Mundi, a weird portal world between Earth and Hollow Earth. She ran away from Kong back then. But in the finale, she has no choice but to face him.

Why the fight now? Isabel Simmons, the season’s greedy villain, steals Co‘cai’s egg. She uses May’s technology to control Co’cai‘s brain, making the mother Titan angry and confused. Isabel wants Kong dead because he blocks her plans to make money from the Axis Mundi’s portals. Her bet is simple: a furious mother protecting her baby can beat the King of Skull Island.

Kentaro Randa, still sad about his father Hiroshi’s death, helps Isabel. He thinks using the Axis Mundi can bring Hiroshi back. Cate Randa tries to stop her brother, but he is too lost in his grief to listen. She ends up locked in a cell while the monsters get ready to rumble.

The Fight Ends With a Mother’s Love

When Kong and Co’cai finally clash, the battle is huge. Trees get flattened. The ground shakes. Cate escapes her cell and finds herself right in the middle of the chaos.

Just when it looks like the fight will go all the way, Co’cai sees her egg. A mother‘s instincts are stronger than any human technology. She breaks free from the mind control devices. She grabs her baby and holds it close.

Then something unexpected happens. Co’cai bows to Kong.

“In the cutest moment in the entire Monsterverse franchise, Kong meekly climbs a mountain and allows Co’cai to pass.”

Kong understands what just happened. He was tricked into fighting a scared mother. The big ape, who lost his own family when he was young, steps aside. He lets Co’cai and her baby walk away safely.

Cate Becomes the Hero of the Episode

While the Titans fight, Cate Randa has her biggest moment of the season. Anna Sawai, who plays Cate, gets praised by critics for her work in this finale. She uses her special connection with Co’cai to guide the Titan back to the portal.

Critics say this is where the show shines. Leopold Ross’ music score during the scene where Cate leads Co’cai home is called “the single strongest setpiece of the entire series.”

Cate proves all season long that her theories about the Titans are right. She cares about them. She does not want to use them as weapons. In the finale, she risks her life to prove that humans and Titans can live together peacefully.

Humans Are the Real Monsters

The finale makes one thing clear: the Titans are not the bad guys. Isabel Simmons is the real villain. She does not care about the Titan ecosystem. She does not care that Skull Island needs Kong to stay balanced. She only cares about money and power.

Kentaro is also a problem. He betrays his own sister. He helps Isabel. He pushes Co’cai’s brain controls past their limit, making the fight worse. When Cate tries one last time to save him, he turns her away and leaves with Isabel.

“When it comes to human-Titan coexistence, humans are the real problem.”

A Time Jump and a New Monster

The finale jumps forward six weeks. A new Monarch team is now in charge. Tim leads the group. Keiko, Cate, and May work together under him. They are called “Monarch 2.0.”

Their first mission? Find Kentaro and Isabel. The two escaped after the battle on Skull Island. They are still looking for a way into the Axis Mundi. They want to use it to rewrite history.

Lee Shaw tracks them down. But what he finds is not just Isabel and Kentaro. He discovers another Titan. A familiar one. Rodan, the fire bird from the movie ‘Godzilla: King of the Monsters,’ appears in the final moments.

What Critics Say About the Finale

Reviews for the season 2 finale are mixed but mostly positive. Many critics agree that the final two episodes are much stronger than the slow middle part of the season.

One critic writes: “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 Episode 10 doesn’t erase the issues that came before it, but it does remind you why the show works when it’s focused.”

Another says: “The effects look great as always, and the integration of them into the real-world footage is really strong.”

The biggest complaint? The season took too long to get to the good part. Eight episodes of setup for two episodes of payoff frustrates some viewers.

The Message Behind the Monster Fight

The finale sends a clear message. Greed and selfishness cause more damage than any Titan ever could. Isabel wants profit. Kentaro wants to bring back someone who is gone. Neither cares about the destruction they cause.

But there is hope. Cate, Keiko, and the new Monarch team want to do things differently. They want to protect and understand the Titans, not control them.

Kong shows that even the biggest, strongest creature on Skull Island can choose mercy over violence. That is a lesson the human characters still need to learn.
