Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 3 Episode 2 continues the Eris Training Arc with a focus on Nina Farion’s journey to uncover the truth about Rudeus. The episode, which aired on July 4, 2026, as part of a special back-to-back premiere with Episode 1, shows Nina refusing to believe Eris’s stories about her relationship with Rudeus.
The second episode of the new season, titled “Howl, Mad Dog,” dives deep into the dynamics between Eris and her fellow trainees at the Sword God’s dojo. Nina, the dojo master’s daughter, challenges Eris’s claims and sets out to prove her wrong.
Nina’s Investigation Leads Her to Rudeus
Nina Farion does not believe that Rudeus Greyrat exists. She thinks Eris made up this character for her own fascination.
To settle the matter once and for all, Nina goes to the Adventurers’ Guild. She expects to find proof that Eris is lying. Instead, she hears something that shocks her.
The guild members tell her about Rudeus, also known as Quagmire. They say he has already become an important figure in the adventurer world. He supposedly slew a red dragon by himself.
Nina still does not believe the testimony. She even hires someone to provide her with all the needed information about Rudeus’s abilities.
Determined to find the truth, Nina heads to the Magic Academy. When she arrives, she sees a long queue of challengers waiting to duel Rudeus. She watches him end his fight in the blink of an eye.
“Nina believes Rudeus does not exist. She thinks that Eris created this character herself for her own fascination.”
Nina thinks Rudeus won because his opponent was weak. But then the Demon King Badigadi shows up and takes on everyone at once.
Nina joins the crowd and gets knocked down along with them. When she regains consciousness, she sees Rudeus delivering a decisive blow against Badigadi.
At that moment, Nina finally understands the size of Eris’s goal. She realizes that everything Eris said about Rudeus was true.
The Water God Puts Eris to the Test
The episode also shows Gal Farion bringing the Water God to evaluate Eris. He hopes she can help push Eris toward defeating Orsted.
The Water God initially disapproves of Eris. She calls Eris a wild animal and says her fighting mode is incompatible.
However, the Water God agrees to train Eris. She insists that Eris first battle her apprentice, Isolde Cruel (also known as Cluel).
Eris fails to beat Isolde. But then something unexpected happens. When Nina takes on Isolde, she knocks her out cold.
“Surprisingly though, when Nina takes on Isolde, she knocks her out. Not just down, or breaks her weapon, she knocks her out – cold.”
The three fighters create a strange cycle. Eris beats Nina, Nina beats Isolde, and Isolde beats Eris.
This leads to an agreement among the masters. The three girls will train together.
A New Friendship Forms Between Eris, Nina, and Isolde
The training brings Eris, Nina, and Isolde closer together. Isolde warns Eris that she shows her bitterness too openly in battle.
Nina says she fights by ignoring everything except the fight itself.
Eris does not fully understand yet. She decides to work on controlling her feelings.
That evening, the three girls set off on a journey. Their goal is to hunt a dangerous beast so Eris can get her Sword Saint coat.
This final part of the episode shows how far Eris has come. She is no longer just the angry girl from earlier seasons.
“Isolde basically tells Eris she can’t beat her because her animosity reveals what she is going to do next.”
The episode explores the theme of friendship. Eris knows what love is because of Rudeus. But she is still learning about friendship.
Nina and Isolde see a friendship forming between them. It is unclear if Eris sees herself as friends with them yet.
