Yami Gautam Dhar is stepping into a world of ghosts, witches, and family chaos. The teaser for her upcoming film Nayyi Navelli arrived on September 10, 2026, and it introduces her as Mohini, a picture-perfect new bride who may not be what she seems.
The 1-minute and 31-second clip starts inside an ordinary household in Meerut. A family member stands up and makes a wild claim about the new sister-in-law: “Bhabhi daayan hai” (Sister-in-law is a witch). The family laughs it off. But then Yami’s character appears, and she does not deny a single word.
What Happens in the Nayyi Navelli Teaser
The teaser sets up a strange and funny family drama. Mohini is accused of being a daayan by her brother-in-law, Bantu, played by Anurag Thakur. He calls her a “100% Ramsay Brothers wali saakshaat dayan” (a full-blown witch straight out of a Ramsay Brothers film), and for that, he gets a slap from his brother.
Mohini’s reply is the most talked-about moment of the teaser. She says:
“Bas daayan? Do daayan, teen pishaach aur chaar bhooth toh main breakfast mein hi kha jaati hoon.”
(Just a witch? Two witches, three demons, and four ghosts — I finish them off at breakfast itself.)
She then levitates, walks through a dense forest, and breaks the fourth wall. Looking straight at the audience, she makes a cheeky request: “Deviyon aur sajjanon, a little request. THINK BIG.”.
The teaser also shows a Ravan dahan scene during Dussehra, where a mukut (crown) is cut down from the statue. It ends with Mohini flying through the air and landing in a home as a married woman.
The Tumbbad Connection Explained
The marketing for Nayyi Navelli describes it as a mix of the “madness of Tanu Weds Manu Returns” and the “mysteries of Tumbbad”. Both Tanu Weds Manu and Tumbbad were produced by Colour Yellow, the banner founded by Aanand L Rai.
Tumbbad is a much-loved Indian folk horror film about greed, a cursed treasure, and a terrifying creature called Hastar. The teaser for Nayyi Navelli leans into that same world of Indian folklore, with ghosts, demons, and a bride who might be far more powerful than a simple witch.
Fans online picked up on the connection right away. One user wrote, “Nayyi Navelli is connected to Tumbbad means it’s gonna be peak.” Another comment read, “Looking perfect horror comedy.”.
Yami Gautam’s First Look as Mohini
Yami Gautam Dhar appears in a red saree as Mohini, the new bride. Her look is both elegant and eerie. The teaser makes it clear that this is a role unlike anything she has done before, including her recent work in Article 370, Haq, and Uri: The Surgical Strike.
The actress shared the teaser on her Instagram with a playful caption:
“Deviyon aur sajanon, Mohini ki taraf se a little request… #NayyiNavelli teaser out now. This Dussehra, in cinemas only. Save the date: 16 Oct, 2026.”
Her husband, director Aditya Dhar, also reacted to the teaser in a funny way. Sharing the film’s motion poster earlier in August, he wrote on Instagram: “So this is what I married into!”.

Nayyi Navelli is directed by Balaji Mohan. The story and screenplay are written by Himanshu Sharma and Divy Nidhi Sharma. Music is composed by G.V. Prakash Kumar.
