October 2026 Video Game Releases: Complete List, Top Picks, and What You Need to Know

October 2026 turned into one of the busiest gaming months of the year, with major launches spread across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. Publishers packed the month with big titles before Grand Theft Auto 6 arrives in November, giving players everything from fast-paced shooters to martial arts action and long-awaited remasters. Here is the full picture of what came out, what stood out, and what is still on the way before the month ends.

A Packed Month Before GTA 6

The shadow of GTA 6 pushed several major games into October. That made the month unusually crowded, with new entries in long-running franchises and fresh ideas arriving side by side. Gears of War: E-Day opened the month on October 6, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 closed the biggest release window on October 23. Between those two, players got racing games, role-playing games, horror shooters, and family-friendly titles.

Biggest Highlights of October 2026

Gears of War: E-Day brought the series back to its roots as an Xbox console exclusive on October 6. Set 14 years before the original game, the prequel follows Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago during the first Locust invasion. Reviews were split on the campaign, but most agreed the combat felt sharp and modern. The game launched on Xbox Series X|S and PC, and it was available through Game Pass from day one.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 arrived on October 23 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. The game introduced Collateral, a tactical round-based multiplayer mode built around an in-match economy, purchased weapons, and single-life rounds. It also brought back a focused solo campaign without co-op. Early player response was strong, with the game reaching a 93% positive review score on Steam, a high not seen for the series in over a decade.

Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve launched on October 2 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The flight-action game added a full online mode with PvE and PvP battles, a Threat Level system, and electronic warfare aircraft. Some early players reported technical issues during premium access, and the developer promised quick fixes.

Star Wars: Galactic Racer hit PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on October 6. Built by a team with experience on racing series like Need for Speed and Burnout, the game focused on podracing and high-speed collisions across famous planets.

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse returned the franchise to 2D action on October 15 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC. Set decades after Castlevania III, it followed Rose Belmont and mixed classic side-scrolling combat with more modern movement.

Final Fantasy Resonance released on October 22 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, Switch 2, and PC. The new entry in the franchise added another role-playing option to a month already full of variety.

Games Still to Launch Before November

A few notable releases are still set to arrive before October ends. Phantom Blade Zero is scheduled for October 29 on PS5 and PC. The action role-playing game was delayed from its original September 9 date to give the team more time to polish the experience. The creative director addressed the delay in a public letter.

“A 50-day delay cannot solve everything. But it does give us…” the director wrote, thanking players for their patience and support.

The Wolf Among Us Remastered also arrives on October 29 for PS5, Xbox, Switch, Switch 2, and PC. The remaster brings the story-driven adventure back with updated visuals and performance. Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown, an expansion to the open-world action game, releases the same day on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Minecraft Switch 2 Edition and Hell Is Us for Switch 2 both launched on October 27, giving Nintendo players two more options in the final week of the month.

Release Details for Global Players

Most October releases launched simultaneously across major regions, including the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and India. Digital storefronts on PS5, Xbox, Steam, Epic Games Store, and Nintendo eShop carried the games at local times. Physical editions varied by title. Phantom Blade Zero received a physical PS5 release, though players could not pre-order physical copies before launch. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 and Gears of War: E-Day were available through their respective subscription services and standard digital stores.
