The One Tatami Manga Cafe Life anime, based on Kumako Hisama’s popular four-panel manga, has locked in its exact release date. The series will debut on April 11, 2026, with production staff also unveiling a brand-new trailer and a fresh key visual that gives fans their best look yet at the quirky manga cafe dormitory .
A Country Girl’s Big City Twist
The story follows Meiko Morita, a high school student who moves from the countryside to Tokyo after getting accepted into an elite girls’ academy. She accepts an offer that seems too good to be true: free tuition in exchange for volunteer work at her new dormitory. But when Meiko arrives in the big city, she discovers her new home is actually Hedgehog, a manga cafe that doubles as a girls’ dormitory .
Living in a cramped one-tatami room, Meiko quickly realizes her new life will be anything but ordinary. Her roommates include Rie Amamiya, a wealthy heiress and dorm manager with a passion for yuri and boys’ love manga, Marika Suzuki, a hugely popular streamer who goes by “Marica Belltree” online, and Neo Nakano, a cute-looking but serious pro gamer who competes in world championships .
New Trailer Reveals More Characters
The latest promotional video, released in early March 2026, introduces four additional residents of the Hedgehog universe. Michika Narumi is a first-year high school student who works at a cat cafe in the same building. Majikarumomorin Gลda, an 18-year-old, has also taken up residence at the manga cafe. The trailer also features Gao, a streamer running the “GaoChube” channel, and Beruna, who serves as Gao’s maid and self-described secret spy .
The new key visual accompanying the trailer showcases the full cast in the cozy but chaotic atmosphere of Hedgehog, with Meiko looking both overwhelmed and amused by her unusual surroundings .
Production Team and Theme Songs
Studio PRA is handling animation production, with Toshinori Watanabe (Tokyo Ghoul:re, Mix: Meisei Story) directing the series. Fumiya Uehara serves as character designer and chief animation director, joined by Minefumi Harada, Yลซki Yabata, and Saori Sakiguchi as chief animation directors .
The music team includes MONACA composing the soundtrack, with Yayoi Tateishi directing the sound. The opening theme, Ciao Ciao, will be performed by Sophiร la Mode, while the ending theme, Yawayawa NERD Cho FreQuency, comes from Mugendai Mewtype.
