Orlando Bloom is set to receive a major career honor at the upcoming 83rd Venice International Film Festival. The 49-year-old actor will be presented with the Filming Italy International Award on September 6 at the Lido in Venice. He is attending the festival as part of the cast of Werner Herzog’s competition film Bucking Fastard.
What Is the Filming Italy International Award
The Filming Italy International Award comes from Filming Italy — Los Angeles, an organization that connects the Italian and Hollywood film industries. The award is not connected to the Venice Film Festival itself. It recognizes individuals whose talent and career have made a significant contribution to the growth and reach of cinema and audiovisual work on a global level. The award ceremony is part of the eighth edition of the Filming Italy Venice Award, an event created and directed by Tiziana Rocca.
The Filming Italy Venice Award also supports initiatives against violence against women and is dedicated to women working in the film industry, both in front of and behind the camera.
Tiziana Rocca Praises Bloom’s Career
Tiziana Rocca, who heads Filming Italy and also leads the Taormina Film Festival, shared her thoughts about honoring Bloom:

Rocca noted that Bloom achieved international fame through his participation in two of the greatest film sagas of all time: The Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean.
Bloom’s Career Spanning More Than 25 Years
The honor recognizes a career that stretches back more than 25 years and includes two of the defining blockbuster franchises of the 2000s. Bloom became an international star as the elf Legolas in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy. He later returned to the role for The Hobbit films. He also played blacksmith-turned-pirate Will Turner alongside Johnny Depp and Keira Knightley in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
Bloom’s Recent Work
Bloom recently appeared in Sean Ellis’ boxing thriller The Cut, which he also produced through his production company Amazing Owl. He also starred in the crime comedy Deep Cover, a Prime Video U.K. Original movie directed by Tom Kingsley. Deep Cover features Bloom alongside Bryce Dallas Howard and Nick Mohammed as improvisational actors recruited to infiltrate London’s criminal underworld.

Bucking Fastard at Venice Film Festival
Bloom’s upcoming film Bucking Fastard, written and directed by Werner Herzog, will compete for the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. The film receives its first public festival screening on September 3 at the Sala Grande. The 109-minute drama also stars sisters Kate Mara and Rooney Mara, alongside Domhnall Gleeson.
Bloom plays Gareth Mulroney, the lover of inseparable, synchronized twin sisters Jean and Joan Holbrooke, played by the real-life Mara sisters. The sisters speak in unison, share the same dreams, and fall in love with the same man. Their unconventional lives bring them into contact with the courts and the press, as well as people seeking either to help or exploit them. The film was shot in Ireland, including city streets and underground caves, with Herzog’s longtime collaborator Peter Zeitlinger serving as cinematographer. The festival lists Ireland and the United States as the production countries.
The 83rd Venice Film Festival
The 83rd Venice International Film Festival runs from September 2 to 12. The Filming Italy Venice Award ceremony will take place on September 6, three days after Bucking Fastard screens in competition.
