James Bobin, the director who started the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series on Disney+, will return to guide its next chapter. Bobin confirmed he will direct the first two episodes of Season 3, continuing the pattern he set with the show’s first two seasons. This news offers a strong signal of creative consistency as the show dives into the darker story of The Titan’s Curse, with filming already underway and a star-studded cast joining the quest.
Why James Bobinโs Return Matters for the Showโs Feel
For many fans, the look and feel of Camp Half-Blood and the demigods’ world comes from the opening episodes. James Bobin, who also serves as an executive producer on the series, has been the architect of that visual and emotional tone since the beginning. He explained his focus is on making a world that viewers want to revisit each week.
โIโm always very keen to be involved in the beginning,โ Bobin said. โTo set the tone and the pace and the world, and the sense of place. Thatโs really important to me. I build places and worlds and ideas, and then hopefully you think thatโs a fun place to spend an hour of my time.โ
His personal connection to the source material is a big reason he keeps coming back. Bobin shared that Rick Riordan’s novels were important in his own home, with his children growing up reading them. This deep understanding of the lore helps ensure the adaptation stays true to the spirit of the books that fans love.
A Look at the New and Returning Faces in Season 3
Season 3 is set to adapt The Titan’s Curse, the third book in Riordan’s series. The story follows Percy and his friends on a mission to rescue the goddess Artemis, who is kidnapped alongside Annabeth Chase. This brings several powerful new characters into the show’s world.
A major new addition is the villain. Holt McCallany has been cast as the Titan Atlas, the season’s primary antagonist. In the story, Atlas has been freed from his eternal punishment of holding up the sky and now seeks to lead the armies of Kronos against the Olympians. McCallany is scheduled to appear in six episodes.
They will be joined by other new faces. David Costabile will play the strict military academy headmaster Dr. Thorn, a character whose true mythological form is a closely guarded secret from the books. Additionally, Jesse L. Martin joins the cast as Frederick Chase, Annabeth’s mortal father, a military historian who has a complicated but loving relationship with his daughter.
These actors join previously announced cast members for the new season. Dafne Keen will play the goddess Artemis, and Saara Chaudry is cast as her lieutenant, Zoรซ Nightshade. Kate McKinnon is set to appear as the goddess Aphrodite. Fan-favorite characters Nico and Bianca di Angelo, the children of Hades, will be played by Levi Chrisopulos and Olive Abercrombie.
The core trio of Walker Scobell (Percy), Leah Sava Jeffries (Annabeth), and Aryan Simhadri (Grover) will return. They will be joined by returning series regulars including Charlie Bushnell (Luke), Dior Goodjohn (Clarisse), and Daniel Diemer (Tyson).
Season 3 Production and Story Details
Disney officially renewed Percy Jackson and the Olympians for a third season in March 2025, showing strong confidence in the series even before the second season finished airing. Production on Season 3 began on August 8, 2025, in Vancouver. In a testament to the show’s busy schedule, the team started filming Season 3 just days after wrapping Season 2. Filming is currently ongoing and is scheduled to continue into early 2026.
The creative team has hinted that The Titan’s Curse marks a shift for the series. The story takes a darker turn with higher stakes for the young demigods. The plot centers on the kidnapping of Artemis and Annabeth, forcing Percy, Grover, and the newly resurrected Thalia Grace to race against time on a dangerous rescue mission that brings them face-to-face with the vengeful Atlas.
