The newest Predator movie, Predator: Badlands, tells a different kind of story. For the first time, a Predator is the main hero. The film follows a young Yautja warrior named Dek and his journey to prove his worth. The ending sees Dek forming his own family and making a choice that changes his life, while also teasing what might come next for the franchise.

How Predator: Badlands Ends

The final act of the movie is a busy one. Dek, the android Thia, and the young creature Bud work together to stop the evil synthetic Tessa and the Weyland-Yutani corporation. Tessa is using a large mech suit to try and capture the Kalisk, a mighty monster.

Dek has a change of heart and decides to save the Kalisk instead of killing it for a trophy. He realizes that Bud is the Kalisk’s baby. Dek fights his way into the Weyland-Yutani base to free Thia and the captured Kalisk. In the big fight, the Kalisk eats Tessa. However, Tessa uses a bomb from Dek’s own gear to blow up the Kalisk from the inside.

Dek and Bud then finish off Tessa for good. Even though Dek did not kill the Kalisk himself, he takes Tessa’s head as his trophy. He reasons that by defeating the one who killed the planet’s top predator, Tessa herself became the ultimate trophy.

Dek’s Return to Yautja Prime

With his trophy, Dek returns to his home planet to face his father, the clan leader Njohrr. Dek presents Tessa’s head, but his father rejects it and calls him weak for not killing the Kalisk as he had vowed.

This leads to a final fight. Dek challenges his father and, after a fierce battle, manages to trap him. Instead of dealing the final blow himself, Dek lets Bud bite Njohrr’s head off. With his father defeated, Dek is offered the leadership of the clan. He turns it down, telling his father he has already found his new clan with Thia and Bud.

The Final Scene and a Sequel Tease

The movie does not have a post-credits scene, but it features a final story moment before the credits roll. After Dek has formed his new clan with Thia and Bud, a large Predator ship approaches them.

Thia asks, “Friends of yours?” Dek replies, “My mother.”

The film ends there, introducing Dek’s mother as a new and mysterious figure. Her sudden arrival sets up a potential new story, leaving audiences to wonder about her intentions.

What the Ending Means for the Franchise

Predator: Badlands makes several big changes to the series’ formula. It is the first film where a Predator is the clear protagonist and where there are no human characters. The story focuses on Dek rejecting his culture’s violent and solitary traditions.

By choosing to protect life and form a family with an android and an alien creature, Dek creates a new kind of clan. This “found family” theme is a major shift for the franchise and opens the door for more character-driven stories. The arrival of Dek’s mother at the end provides a direct path for a sequel, suggesting that his family drama is far from over.
