Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are planning to return to the United Kingdom in July 2026 with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. This marks the first family visit to Britain in four years. King Charles has reportedly offered the family a royal residence to stay in during their time in the country.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will travel from their California home for a five-day trip centered around the Invictus Games “One Year to Go” events in Birmingham. The couple’s last family visit to the UK was in June 2022 for Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
King Charles Offers Accommodation and Facilitates the Visit
Buckingham Palace has offered Prince Harry and Meghan accommodation at a royal residence for their upcoming stay. The family has not yet responded to the offer as of June 19, 2026.
BBC News confirms that the family has been offered a place to stay on a royal estate but the specific residence remains unclear. Prince Harry previously turned down offers to stay at Buckingham Palace during solo trips due to security concerns about the high-profile location.
King Charles has reportedly stepped in to help facilitate the visit by offering his own private resources. Reports indicate the monarch wants to help cover security arrangements for his son’s family during their stay. This intervention comes after Prince Harry lost a legal appeal in May 2025 regarding his taxpayer-funded police protection in the UK.
Security Concerns Remain a Key Issue
The security arrangements for the Sussex family visit remain a central concern. Prince Harry has been in a long dispute with the UK government over his security status since stepping back as a working royal in 2020.
In a 2023 statement, Prince Harry expressed his concerns about bringing his family to Britain:
“The U.K. is my home. The U.K. is central to the heritage of my children and a place I want them to feel at home as much as where they live at the moment in the United States. That cannot happen if there is no possibility to keep them safe when they are on U.K. soil.”
The Duke added: “I can’t put my wife in danger like that.”
Following the legal ruling against him in May 2025, Harry stated in a BBC interview that it was “too dangerous” to bring his family to the UK as he could not guarantee their safety. It is unclear what specific security provisions will be in place for the July visit, though the Home Office is responsible for any additional security measures.
Possible Royal Reunion with King Charles and Grandchildren
King Charles has reportedly left the door open for a private meeting with Prince Harry, Meghan and their grandchildren during the visit. The King last saw Archie and Lilibet in person during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022.
Royal experts suggest that any reunion will likely happen away from public view. Royal biographer Phil Dampier told the Daily Mail:
“The King wants a reconciliation with his son and wants to see his grandchildren. I think he will want to avoid a public meeting on this trip as it would turn into a circus, but would meet them privately.”
Royal biographer Hugo Vickers also weighed in on the potential meeting:
“I am sure he will see the children. The king has always left the door wide open, and he did see Harry last September.”
Vickers added: “It’s a good idea that Harry should reconcile privately with his father, for both their sakes. The king made it clear that he didn’t want his last years to be miserable, and Harry is burdened with enough trauma that, if Charles died without them making peace, that would just cause him even more problems.”
The Significance of Archie and Lilibet’s First UK Visit in Four Years
Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, have not visited the UK since 2022. The children have reportedly maintained contact with their grandfather through video calls but have not seen him in person for four years.
Sources close to the family indicate Prince Harry wants to bring his children to England to introduce them to British culture and his friends and family. A Los Angeles business associate told The Telegraph there has been a “warming of the frost” between Harry and Charles in recent months.
The source added: “Harry says he’s coming back before the end of the year with the children with the express intent to reunite with his dad. He has wanted to have his kids meet their grandfather, especially after their summit in London last year.”

What to Expect During the Five-Day Visit
The Sussex family is expected to be in the UK from July 6 to 10, 2026. The primary purpose of the trip is to attend events marking the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham.
Prince Harry founded the Invictus Games in 2014 for wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans. The event has become a significant part of his public work since stepping back from royal duties.
It remains unclear whether Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet will appear in public during the visit. Royal commentators suggest any meeting with King Charles will be private and away from cameras.
