Ranbir Kapoor has opened up about how playing Lord Ram in Nitesh Tiwari‘s upcoming film Ramayana changed him as a person. The actor, who was initially scared of taking on the role, said the experience gave him a chance to become a better human being. He shared these thoughts during a special appearance on Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) with his co-stars Sai Pallavi and Ravie Dubey.
The Fear That Turned Into Gratitude
During the KBC episode, host Amitabh Bachchan asked the cast about their first reactions when they were offered their roles. Ranbir admitted that his first instinct was fear, not excitement. He knew that playing Lord Ram was not just another acting job.
“When this role was offered to me, I knew that this isn’t just a role; it is a big responsibility. My first instinct was fear, that if I am qualified enough to play this role? Whether I will be able to do this role? The faith of crores of people is linked to Lord Shri Ram. But very soon this fear turned into gratitude”.
The actor explained that he felt grateful for the opportunity because it came at a very meaningful stage in his life. “I felt gratitude that I got this opportunity at this stage in my life and a chance to become a better human,” he said.
Fatherhood and Lord Ram
Ranbir also revealed that the role came to him around the same time he became a father. His daughter, Raha, was born during this period, which made the experience even more special for him. He described the film as a gift from God.
“It was during this time that I became a father and I believe that this film is a God’s gift that I got an opportunity to become a better human, to understand Ramayana deeply and to get the opportunity to work with these beautiful people. It not impossible to become like Lord Ram but to learn something from him is a big deal for all of us”.
Sai Pallavi Prayed to Sita Maa
Sai Pallavi, who plays Sita Maa in the film, shared her own approach to the role. She said she did not want to use her usual method of thinking about what she could give to the character. Instead, she focused on what she could learn from playing Sita Maa.
“I didn’t want to use my head this time. Every time when I play a character, I think what can I give to that character, but this was the first time when I thought – ‘What can I get for playing a role like that of Sita Maa? Like what knowledge will I gain from this?’ So, I wanted to keep the process transparent. I didn’t want to think anything about it. I prayed to Sita Maa and went forward with it”.
Ravie Dubey, who plays Lakshman, said he and his wife Sargun believe that everything happens due to divine intervention. He was still in disbelief that he got such a huge role to play.
