How The Los Angeles Waves Lost A Heartbreaking Game 7

The first season followed Isla’s rocky journey from a party girl reputation to leading the Los Angeles Waves. Against all expectations, she pushed the team to Game 7 of the playoffs against the Portland Trail Blazers.

The game came down to the final seconds. After a foul, the Waves’ rookie Dyson Gibbs made two free throws, tying the score. But with no time left on the clock, a Trail Blazers player made an incredible half-court shot. The Waves lost the championship in a crushing defeat.

Even though they did not win the trophy, Isla proved she could lead. She earned the respect of the players by handling tough issues, including sending star player Travis Bugg (Chet Hanks) to rehab instead of letting him play.

The Shocking Truth About Cam Gordon’s Plan

The biggest secret of Season 1 involved Cam Gordon (Justin Theroux) . Cam was the eldest brother who stepped down and went to rehab, leaving the team presidency to Isla.

Everyone thought Cam trusted his little sister to do a good job. But the finale revealed that Cam was actually the “leak” feeding bad rumors to the press. His plan was to watch Isla fail so he could easily take his job back. He wanted her to crash and burn.

He did not expect her to actually succeed.

The season ended with a huge surprise. The morning after the Game 7 loss, Isla came to her office ready to work. She found Cam sitting in her chair. He had bribed his way out of rehab early.

“What’s up, sis? I’m back!” Cam said, setting up a major family war for Season 2.

Isla’s Love Life Takes A Turn

Isla’s personal life was just as messy as the basketball court. She started the season engaged to Lev (Max Greenfield) , a kind pediatrician. But as she got busy with the Waves, she took him for granted.

Lev got tired of being second place. He moved out of their home and accepted a job in Minnesota. Isla ran to his office to apologize, telling him she made a mistake. Lev asked for time to think, but he did not show up to watch her big game, signaling the relationship was likely over.

While Lev drifted away, Isla got closer to Coach Jay (Jay Ellis) . She did something her brothers hated: she let Jay out of his contract early so he could move to Boston to be near his daughters.

After the devastating playoff loss, Isla was sitting alone in the empty arena. Coach Jay came to comfort her. The conversation on the court led to an unexpected kiss. Jay pulled away awkwardly and left, but the moment made it clear their relationship is changing.

The Gordon Family Finds A New Brother

Season 1 also introduced Jackie Moreno (Fabrizio Guido) . Jackie was working at the Waves’ arena when he learned he was actually the secret half-brother of the Gordon family.

While the brothers were skeptical, Isla worked to bring Jackie into the family. In the finale, the siblings realized they needed to be better. They went to Jackie’s house to ask him to teach them how to be a real family, telling him:

“Our parents didn’t really teach us how to be a family, but your mom did. So maybe you could teach us?”
