In a surprising turn of events, four actors turned down a guest role in a film produced by Karan Johar, and Salman Khan’s unexpected response added a twist to the tale. The incident unfolded during a party at Chunky Pandey’s house, where Karan Johar shared his disappointment with Salman Khan.
Karan Johar, who recently appeared as a guest on the reality show ‘Indian Idol,’ revealed that he was casting for a role in the film ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.’ While Shahrukh Khan and Kajol’s roles were finalized, finding an actor for the character ‘Aman,’ played by Salman Khan, proved to be a challenging task.
“I approached 3 to 4 actors for the guest role, but they all turned me down. I was really upset about it,” Karan Johar shared on the reality show. However, the situation took an unexpected turn during Chunky Pandey’s party.
Salman Khan approached
Salman Khan, noticing Karan’s disheartened expression, approached him and casually asked, “Did you go shopping?” Karan, perplexed by Salman’s question, replied affirmatively. Salman then responded in his characteristic style, “But to do this film, someone has to be crazy, and I am that crazy one. Come tomorrow, and narrate the story to me.”
Karan Johar, apprehensive but determined, visited Salman Khan’s house the next day. Worried that Salman might assume he was offering him Shahrukh Khan’s role, Karan clarified that Salman’s role would come in the second half of the film.
To Karan’s surprise, Salman Khan nonchalantly replied, “What difference does it make to me? I know your father. I am doing this film for him. Whatever the role is, it doesn’t matter to me.”
Reflecting on the incident, Karan Johar shared that Salman Khan‘s star status was so significant that he hadn’t even considered him for the role initially, thinking Salman wouldn’t be interested.
The film in question, ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai,’ celebrated its 25th anniversary, having been released on October 16, 1998. It emerged as one of the highest-grossing Indian films of its time and marked Karan Johar’s directorial debut under Dharma Productions. Besides Shahrukh Khan and Kajol, the film featured Rani Mukerji, Anupam Kher, and Archana Puran Singh in prominent roles, with Salman Khan making a cameo appearance.
