The hit Hollywood satire The Studio is officially heading back to set. Just days after winning big at the 2026 Golden Globes, series star and co-creator Seth Rogen confirmed that production on Season 2 has started filming. The news came directly from Rogen during the awards ceremony, where the Apple TV+ show won for Best Television Series โ€“ Musical or Comedy.

The Golden Globes Announcement and Show Success

Speaking to press backstage after the win, Rogen shared the exciting update about the show’s return. He stated that filming would begin the following week, which places the start of production in mid-January 2026. This announcement adds to a massive wave of success for the series. That same night, Rogen also won a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a TV Comedy. This follows the show’s historic performance at the 2025 Emmy Awards, where it won 13 awards, breaking the record for most wins by a comedy series.

The moment was surreal for the team, as Season 1 featured an entire episode set at a fictional Golden Globes ceremony. “This is so weird! We just pretended to do this. And now it is happening!” Rogen said while accepting his award. He revealed that real events from this awards season are already finding their way into the new scripts. “Weโ€™ve literally written some things that happened leading up to this award show into episodes as weโ€™ve been writing the show,” Rogen explained.

What to Expect in The Studio Season 2

While specific plot details are under wraps, the creators have shared some general ideas. The story will continue to follow Matt Remick (played by Rogen) and his team at the struggling Continental Studios. The Season 1 finale left the studio’s fate hanging in the balance after a chaotic CinemaCon presentation meant to prevent a buyout by a tech giant. Season 2 will likely explore the aftermath of that event.

The writing team has expressed interest in taking the characters to an international film festival and finally showing a movie’s release process, which hasn’t been covered yet. Co-creator Evan Goldberg mentioned they have a wealth of ideas, joking they already had “30 ideas for episodes” and collected “20 more between seasons”.

A major highlight will be the continuation of major celebrity cameos. Rogen said the real Golden Globes event served as a “good poaching ground,” with high-profile industry figures asking to appear on the show. He specifically mentioned Tom Rothman, Chairman of Sony Pictures, as one executive who expressed interest. This follows cameos in Season 1 from real figures like Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos and director Martin Scorsese. The show’s writers have also heard that icons like Paul McCartney and Steven Spielberg are fans, hinting they would love to write parts for them.

Returning Cast and New Production Details

The core cast from the first season is expected to return. This includes Catherine Oโ€™Hara, Kathryn Hahn, Ike Barinholtz, and Chase Sui Wonders. Recurring guest star Bryan Cranston is also likely to return as studio boss Griffin Mill. The creative team behind the scenes remains the same, with Rogen, Goldberg, and writers Peter Huyck, Alex Gregory, and Frida Perez all returning. Acclaimed filmmaker Sarah Polley, who made a cameo in Season 1, will also join the writers’ room.

Production will once again film in California. The state awarded the production $13.2 million in tax credits, ensuring the show continues to film locally. There has been some speculation about the show filming in new locations like New York or Venice, as hinted by star Kathryn Hahn, but this has not been officially confirmed.

Fan Reactions and Anticipation

Since the announcement, fans have been sharing their excitement on social media. The show has developed a dedicated following for its sharp, insider take on the film industry. The news that Season 2 filming has started was confirmed by the popular film discussion page DiscussingFilm on Threads, further spreading the word to eager viewers.

“A lot of people literally just come up to us and were like, โ€˜Put me on your show. Iโ€™ll do anything. Iโ€™ll walk by!’” Rogen said about the experience at the Globes. “Itโ€™s very lovelyโ€ฆ I love that real studio heads want to be on the show.”

Apple TV+ has not yet announced an official release date for Season 2. Given that filming is just beginning, audiences can likely expect new episodes to arrive in late 2026 or early 2027. All episodes of the award-winning first season are available to stream globally on Apple TV+ now.
