The first official trailer for the live-action series Spider-Noir just dropped, and it is already turning heads for a very unique reason. Prime Video and MGM+ released the footage in two separate styles: “Authentic Black & White” and “True-Hue Full Color.” The debut happened on April 25, 2026, during the CCXPMX26 event in Mexico City, where the cast appeared on stage to show fans the first real look at Nicolas Cage as Ben Reilly.

This is not the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man from the cartoons. The series takes the Marvel character back to the gritty streets of the 1930s. Nicolas Cage, who famously voiced a different version of the character in the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, is now playing the role in live action. In this story, he is a tired, worn-out private investigator who used to be the city’s only superhero. After a terrible personal loss, he gets pulled back into a world of crime and mystery.

Two Ways to Watch the Same Dark Story

The biggest talking point from the trailer launch is the option to watch the show in two different color palettes. This marketing move stays true to the “noir” style of old detective movies from the 1940s and 1950s.

Viewers will get to choose how they experience the drama. The “Authentic Black & White” version gives the show a classic, grainy feel, similar to old Humphrey Bogart films. The “True-Hue Full Color” version offers a modern viewing experience while keeping the shadows and moody lighting. When the show arrives on Prime Video on May 27, the entire eight-episode season will be available to binge in either format.

The Plot and New Villains in the Trailer

The two-minute trailer sets up the world of Ben Reilly. He is a private eye struggling to get by in New York City. The trailer shows him getting a new case from a mysterious woman played by Li Jun Li, which throws him back into a world of superpowered criminals.

Fans finally got a clear look at the villains Cage will be fighting. The trailer features quick shots of Sandman (played by Jack Huston), a villain named Megawatt, and the crime boss Silvermane (played by Brendan Gleeson). The action scenes show a lot of fistfights and web-swinging through dark, rainy alleyways, but with a much rougher, more violent edge than a usual Marvel movie.

Fan Reactions to Nicolas Cage and the Web-Swinging

As soon as the trailer went online, social media lit up with reactions to Nicolas Cage taking the lead role. Fans seem to be split between complete excitement and a little bit of curiosity about how the actor will fit into the superhero genre again.

On Reddit, many users are praising the casting choice. One fan commented specifically on Cage’s unique acting style, saying:

“Nic Cage energy is crazy. Every bad movie ever made could become a good movie if he had been cast.”

Another user expressed confidence in the project, stating:

“I have a very weird amount of faith in Cage here.”

However, some viewers questioned the logic of an older actor playing Spider-Man. One fan asked, “Isn’t Nicolas Cage a little too old to be a Spider Man?” Another fan replied to this concern by pointing out the core concept of the show, saying, “Yeah but maybe thatโ€™s the point itโ€™s an over the hill Spider-Man story trying to overcome impossible odds.”

Beyond the acting, fans are paying close attention to the action quality. Many online commenters noted that Spider-Noir appears to have better web-swinging scenes than recent big-budget movies. One post read, “Spider-Man Noir already has better web swinging than the MCUโ€™s,” while another asked, “How is it that a TV showโ€™s web-swinging beats everything Jon Watts ever gave us in the movies?” There is also a running joke among viewers about the characterโ€™s fedora hat staying on his head while flipping through the air, with many asking, “How does his hat stay on?”
