“Squid Game,” the popular series that first aired in 2021, returned for a second season on December 26, 2024. Despite some controversies and criticisms, the show has made history on Netflix.
“Squid Game” Season 2’s Record-Breaking Achievement
The first season of “Squid Game” was a huge hit, raising concerns about whether the second season could live up to expectations. Before its release, “Squid Game 2” faced controversies related to its cast. Some fans were upset about the inclusion of an actor who is a convicted sex offender, and former BIGBANG member T.O.P‘s appearance also caused backlash. Even after the release, some viewers criticized the characters and plot, with some finding the show uninteresting.
Despite these challenges, “Squid Game 2” has accomplished something never before seen on Netflix. Just one day after its release (in US time), the show reached the #1 spot in all 93 countries where Netflix is available. This is a first for any show on the platform.
