What Happened in the Star City Premiere Episodes

Star City Episode 1 opened with a terrifying moment. Soldiers grab a cosmonaut’s wife from her home. She thinks she is being arrested. Instead, they bring her to mission control to watch her husband land on the moon. The Soviet Union has won the race to put a man on the moon.
The Chief Designer wants to go to Venus next. But leaders tell him to build a moon base instead. Then he learns a terrible secret. The Americans have stolen his lunar base plans. Someone inside Star City is a spy.
Lyudmilla Raskova (Anna Maxwell Martin) runs the KGB surveillance inside the base. She wants to find the leaker. Her team accuses Yana, a female cosmonaut, of being the spy. They torture her for hours until she confesses. The Chief Designer does not believe she is guilty. But he cannot stop what comes next.
A young surveillance officer named Irina (Agnes O’Casey) listens to the torture tapes. She finds proof that Yana was innocent. Irina takes this information to Raskova. She thinks they will free Yana. Instead, Raskova takes Irina to Yana’s jail cell. Raskova puts a gun in Irina’s hand and tells her to shoot Yana. When Irina cannot do it, Raskova kills Yana herself.

With Yana gone, the Soviets need a new woman for the moon mission. They pick Anastasia Belikova (Alice Englert), a young cosmonaut with no experience. She has only three days to prepare.
Anastasia launches with commander Valya (Adam Nagaitis). During the mission, a problem with her spacesuit almost kills her. A young engineer named Sergei Nikulov saves her with a risky emergency fix. Anastasia becomes the first woman to walk on the moon.
But she does not read the approved Soviet speech. Instead, she honors Yana during her message. The Soviet officials immediately mute her broadcast. But the protest has already been heard.
Episode 2 showed the return to Earth. Their landing goes wrong. They land hundreds of kilometers off course and meet a giant Siberian bear. Soldiers rescue them. But Anastasia faces an even bigger threat on the ground.
Raskova and Maxim Tarasov (David Dencik) show Anastasia a look-alike. This woman can replace her if she does not cooperate. They force Anastasia to marry a cosmonaut named Sasha (Solly McLeod) during a trip to France. Anastasia says her scripted vows word for word. She also turns down an offer to work for the Americans. For now, she is safe.

The official description for Episode 3 reads: “Irina has an unexpected encounter. The Soviets scramble to maintain dominance on the Moon”.
After watching Raskova murder Yana, Irina is now trapped inside the KGB system. She knows the truth about Yana’s innocence. But speaking up could get her killed. The “unexpected encounter” may connect to her search for the real mole. Some fans believe the leaker is someone inside the Chief Designer’s inner circle.
The Soviet lunar base plans are already in American hands. Raskova’s extreme surveillance methods have not stopped the leaks. She will likely tighten her grip even more in Episode 3. That means more danger for everyone inside Star City.
Anastasia is now a Soviet hero. But she is also a prisoner. She is married to Sasha, a man she barely knows. The KGB controls every move she makes. Her protest on the moon may have consequences in the next episode. Raskova does not forget disobedience.
