The neo-noir detective series Sugar is returning for a second season on June 19, 2026, with Colin Farrell leading a mostly new group of actors. The show’s first season dropped a major twist about John Sugar’s true identity, and season two will continue his search for his missing sister while he takes on a fresh missing person case in Los Angeles.
Returning Cast: Colin Farrell Is Back as John Sugar
Colin Farrell returns as the main character John Sugar, a private investigator and movie lover with a mysterious background. The first season revealed that Sugar is actually an alien who stayed on Earth to look for his sister. Farrell also works as an executive producer on the show.
The second season will follow Sugar as he tracks the troubled older brother of a young boxer while still trying to find his own sister. The official logline says Sugar must ask himself “how far will he go to do what’s right?” as the investigation grows into a citywide conspiracy.
New Cast Members Joining Season 2
Almost all the actors from season one are not returning. Instead, Sugar season two brings in a fresh set of characters played by well-known actors.
Jin Ha joins as a series regular. He is known for his role in Apple’s Pachinko and will play a boxer who keeps getting involved with dangerous people.
Laura Donnelly, known for The Nevers, plays a character who is not easily charmed by Sugar. Donnelly’s character asks Sugar where he is from in the season two trailer, a clear nod to the alien twist from season one.
Tony Dalton, famous for playing Lalo Salamanca in Better Call Saul, takes on the role of a Lieutenant in the LA County Sheriff’s Department.
Raymond Lee, who starred in the Quantum Leap reboot, has also joined the main cast. His character details have not been shared yet.
Sasha Calle, who played Supergirl in The Flash movie, is set to appear as a hustler working under Sugar’s direction.
Shea Whigham from Fargo is joining as a special guest star. He is expected to play a government agency employee who helps Sugar with his investigations.
Who Is Not Returning From Season One
The first season of Sugar featured a large ensemble cast including Kirby, Amy Ryan, James Cromwell, Anna Gunn, Dennis Boutsikaris, Nate Corddry, Sydney Chandler, and Alex Hernandez. None of these actors are listed as part of the season two main cast. The show is moving forward with an almost completely new group of characters surrounding Colin Farrell’s John Sugar.

Sugar season two will start streaming on Apple TV+ on Friday, June 19, 2026. The season has eight episodes in total. Apple TV+ will release one episode on June 19, followed by one new episode every Friday until the finale on August 7, 2026.

Season Two Storyline
The second season follows John Sugar as he works a new missing persons case. He is searching for the older brother of a young local boxer who is rising in the sport. At the same time, Sugar continues his personal mission to find his missing sister. The official description says the investigation “expands into a citywide conspiracy with sinister intentions.”
The season two trailer shows Sugar wearing sharp suits and driving a 1960s-era Corvette around Los Angeles. The trailer hints at the alien storyline but does not openly show Sugar’s true form.
