Netflix has set December 11, 2026 as the global premiere date for Tantara, the period drama that pairs Song Hye-kyo and Gong Yoo on screen for the first time. The streaming platform shared the date on October 22, 2026, along with a poster built around a turntable that shows the main characters across different stages of their lives.

Set in South Korea’s entertainment industry from the 1960s to the 1980s, the series follows people who had almost nothing but chased big dreams in music. The announcement closed months of waiting for fans of both actors.

The Date Is Set for December 11

Netflix confirmed the premiere through its official press site and social channels on October 22, 2026. The date puts Tantara in the streamer’s year-end lineup, a slot usually reserved for its biggest Korean titles.

The date announcement poster places the cast on a record player. Min-ja (Song Hye-kyo) and Dong-gu (Gong Yoo) appear as nightclub staff and then as rookie talent managers. Min-hui (Kim Seol-hyun) sings with energy, while Seok Gil-yeo (Cha Seung-won) plays the saxophone.

A Story Built on Music and Struggle

Min-ja grows up in poverty and takes any job she can find to survive. She later enters the music business with a strong will shaped by those hard years. Dong-gu has been her friend since childhood and follows her into the industry, standing by her through the setbacks.

Min-hui has a bold personality and a striking voice. She becomes the first artist managed by Min-ja and Dong-gu, and her relationship with Min-ja carries both rivalry and history. Seok Gil-yeo is the top composer of the era, known for turning new singers into stars.

“Set against the gritty and intense backdrop of the Korean entertainment industry from the 1960s to the 1980s, the series follows individuals who, despite having little, dreamed of glittering success and gave their all to achieve it.” — Netflix official synopsis

Two Stars Finally Share the Screen

Song Hye-kyo returns to a leading role after the 2025 film The Black Nuns and a change of agency. Gong Yoo comes back to series work after Squid Game 2 and The Trunk. The two actors have never worked together before, which has been a major talking point since the project was first reported.

Kim Seol-hyun, Cha Seung-won, Lee Hanee, and Na Moon-hee round out the main cast. Lee Hanee plays Yang-ja, Min-hui’s mother, who still hopes to become a singer. Na Moon-hee plays Mal-soon, a character who reflects the passing of time and the weight of the era.

A Veteran Writer and Director Team

Noh Hee-kyung wrote the series. Her past credits include Our Blues, It’s Okay, That’s Love, That Winter, the Wind Blows, and Dear My Friends. Tantara marks her return to television after more than four years.

Lee Yoon-jung directed the series. She worked with Gong Yoo before on The 1st Shop of Coffee Prince in 2007, making Tantara a reunion for the actor and director. Her other directing credits include Cheese in the Trap.

Big Budget and Episode Count

Tantara carries a reported production budget of 80 billion Korean won, or roughly 58 million US dollars. The series consists of 22 episodes, with each episode running about 50 minutes.
