Taylor Swift has released her new single “Patient Zero” on Friday, September 25, 2026, along with a 13-second teaser of its music video starring Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell. The full video will premiere at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, September 27, 2026.
The song is one of four new tracks on “The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore”, an expanded edition of Swift’s 2025 album. The teaser debuted on CBS Mornings on Thursday, September 24, before Swift shared it on her social media accounts.

The lyrics describe a toxic relationship told from the view of someone warning a new partner about a manipulative ex. Swift calls herself “patient zero” — the first person infected by this person’s harmful patterns.

“Patient Zero” is part of a four-song expanded release called “The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore”. Swift announced the expanded album on Wednesday, September 23, after dropping “Patient Zero” as a single announcement the day before. The songs were written in Sweden with longtime collaborators Max Martin and Shellback while celebrating the original album’s record-breaking first week. Swift shared on Instagram:
