Taylor Swift‘s Eras Tour isn’t just breaking records for ticket sales and audience size; it’s apparently shaking things up on a whole new level! During her recent shows in Edinburgh, Scotland, fans got so hyped that they caused measurable seismic activity, according to the British Geological Survey (BGS).
Swifties Jump, Stadium Thumps
The energy at the Murrayfield Stadium during Taylor Swift’s three-night residency was truly electrifying. Fans, affectionately known as “Swifties,” danced and sang along with such enthusiasm that it generated vibrations picked up by seismic monitoring stations as far as 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) away from the venue.
Friday Night Fevers: The Most Energetic Crowd
While all three nights were undoubtedly lively, reports from BGS indicate that Friday night’s concert saw the most intense seismic activity. The monitoring stations recorded a movement of 23.4 nanometers (nm) during that show, compared to 22.8 nm and 22.3 nm on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
What Songs Got the Biggest Shake?
It seems some of Taylor Swift’s biggest hits also triggered the biggest tremors. The BGS report identified three specific songs that consistently resulted in the most seismic activity during each concert:
- “…Ready For It?”
- “Cruel Summer”
- “Champagne Problems”
These high-energy tracks clearly got the 73,000-strong crowds jumping and stomping, creating a collective force that literally moved the ground.
Not Quite an Earthquake, But Still Impressive
The BGS assures everyone that the vibrations caused by the concert were unlikely to be felt by anyone outside the immediate vicinity of the stadium. Seismic monitoring equipment is incredibly sensitive and can detect even the smallest movements, even those caused by large crowds.
Not the First “Swift Quake”: A History of Energetic Fans
This isn’t the first time Taylor Swift’s fans have caused a stir with their enthusiasm. Back in July 2023, her concerts in Seattle generated similar seismic activity, with fans creating vibrations equivalent to a 2.3 magnitude earthquake!
Taylor Swift Ends Eras Tour with a Bang!
The UK leg of the Eras Tour is set to culminate in a record-breaking eight nights at London’s Wembley Stadium, expected to draw in over 1.2 million concertgoers. The tour itself, spanning 22 countries and 152 shows over 21 months, has already become the highest-grossing concert tour ever, surpassing a billion dollars in revenue within its first eight months. With a final stop in Vancouver, Canada, in December, the Eras Tour promises to conclude in a truly epic fashion.
