Prime Video released the trailer for the fifth and final season of The Boys on March 5, 2026. The footage shows Homelander taking control of the White House while Billy Butcher returns with a plan to wipe out all Supes using a deadly virus. The season premieres on April 8 with two episodes, and the series finale will stream on May 20 .

Homelander’s Quest for V1

The trailer opens with Homelander (Antony Starr) declaring his power is absolute but stating he has a bigger destiny. He seeks V1, the original version of Compound V that created the first Supes. If Homelander gets it, he will become immortal and unstoppable .

To strengthen his position, Homelander thaws his father Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) from cryogenic stasis. Soldier Boy wakes up confused, wearing only underwear and a shirt that reads Sorry, Snowflake. He immediately asks Homelander if they had sex, a reference to the complicated family history revealed in previous seasons . Homelander tells his father they need to prepare America for his ascension .

Butcher’s Deadly Plan

Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) reappears after being missing. He now fully embraces his Compound V-enhanced powers, including tentacle-like abilities. Butcher plans to release a virus that will kill every Supe on the planet, even if it means dying himself .

The trailer shows Butcher facing Soldier Boy, who notes that Butcher is now one of them. Butcher replies that if you cannot beat them, you join them, then adds they should beat them instead . Butcher’s health remains a concern as he deals with a cancerous tumor caused by his V use .

The Boys Imprisoned

Most of the team is in bad shape. Hughie (Jack Quaid), Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso), and Frenchie (Tomer Capone) are locked in a so-called Freedom Camp, detention centers for those who resist Homelander’s rule . Annie (Erin Moriarty) works to build a resistance but faces overwhelming Supe forces. Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) is missing at the start of the season . The trailer features Kimiko speaking a line of dialogue (You guys are friends?), showing how much her character has grown from the non-speaking role in earlier seasons .

Supernatural Reunion

The trailer confirms the full reunion of three Supernatural stars. Jensen Ackles returns as Soldier Boy, joined by Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins in undisclosed roles. The footage shows Collins’ character getting choked out by Soldier Boy during a confrontation in a mansion . Showrunner Eric Kripke, who created Supernatural, has wanted to bring his former cast members together for years. Previous Supernatural alums like Jeffrey Dean Morgan already appear in The Boys universe .

Gen V Characters Join the Fight

Students from the spinoff series Gen V appear in the trailer alongside Starlight. Marie Moreau (Jaz Sinclair), who can manipulate blood, and Jordan Li (London Thor), who shifts between male and female forms, join the resistance . Their knowledge about Compound V’s history could help stop Homelander from obtaining V1. Gen V recently completed its second season, which directly sets up events in The Boys finale .

New Villain Oh-Father

Daveed Diggs joins the cast as Oh-Father, a charismatic preacher leading a superhero religious group called Capes for Christ. In the comics, Oh-Father eventually joins Homelander’s takeover attempt . His character could help Homelander gain support from religious followers while the Freedom Camps handle those who refuse to submit .

Character Updates

The trailer shows A-Train (Jessie T. Usher) running past pro-Homelander propaganda and later appearing with Hughie and Starlight. This suggests he may switch sides or help the resistance . The Deep (Chace Crawford) now hosts a podcast with Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell) working as his soundboard operator, adding dark comedy to the otherwise intense trailer . Sister Sage (Susan Heyward) watches events unfold, likely playing angles no one else anticipates .

Ryan (Cameron Crovetti), Homelander’s son and Butcher’s adopted child, remains a key figure whose loyalties could determine the outcome.

Production and Release Details

Eric Kripke serves as showrunner and executive producer. The series is based on the comic books by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. Executive producers include Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and Neal H. Moritz .

The final season consists of eight episodes. The first two premiere on April 8, 2026, followed by weekly releases. The series finale airs on May 20, 2026 .

The cast includes Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Colby Minifie, Cameron Crovetti, Susan Heyward, Valorie Curry, Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, Misha Collins, and Daveed Diggs .

The final season picks up after the Season 4 ending, where the president declared martial law and put Homelander in charge of the country .
