About The Drops of God Series

The Drops of God is based on the manga series written by Tadashi Agi and illustrated by Shu Okimoto. The story follows the competition for inheritance of an estate and its valuable wine collection.

When world-renowned wine critic Toyotaka Kanzaki passes away, he leaves behind an extraordinary collection. His will states that his estate will go to whoever can correctly guess the brand and year of the 12 greatest wines he selected, along with the legendary wine that stands above them all, known as the “Drops of God”.

The main challengers are Toyotaka’s biological son, Shizuku Kanzaki, and a brilliant young wine critic named Issei Tomine, whom Toyotaka adopted. Shizuku has never tasted wine before, which creates an interesting dynamic as he competes against the experienced Issei.

Episode 17 Recap: What Happened Before

Episode 17 of The Drops of God aired on Friday, July 31, 2026. While specific plot details for episode 17 are limited, the series has been building toward the later stages of the competition.

Previous episodes have shown the growing tension between Camille and Issei as they compete in the wine challenges. The competition involves solving riddles related to wine, with each test becoming more complex than the last.

In earlier episodes, Camille traveled to Italy to solve a riddle involving a 17th-century painting. Lorenzo revealed why Luca wanted Camille to oversee the Léger Wine Guide, and Camille and Issei flew to Paris for the third test.

The series has also explored the personal histories of the characters. Dark memories have emerged during Issei’s night in the cellar, adding emotional depth to the wine competition. Tamar also lived up to her end of a bargain and agreed to meet with Davit.

Why You Should Watch The Drops of God

The Drops of God offers a unique blend of drama, mystery, and education about wine. The series presents wine tasting and appreciation in an accessible way that even viewers with no wine knowledge can understand and enjoy.

The competition format keeps the story moving forward with clear stakes. Each episode introduces new challenges and riddles that the characters must solve, creating a sense of progression and discovery.

The anime adaptation brings the manga to life with strong voice performances. The main cast includes Takuya Satō as Issei Tomine, Kazuya Kamenashi as Shizuku Kanzaki, and Maaya Uchida as Miyabi Shinohara. The opening theme song “hate you? love you?” is performed by HOKUTO, and the ending theme “Kami no Shizuku” is performed by Maaya Uchida.

The series also explores themes of family, legacy, and personal growth. The competition between Shizuku and Issei is not just about wine but also about identity and belonging.

Episode 18 continues the second cour of the anime. With the competition for the Twelve Apostles moving forward, viewers can expect more wine challenges and character development.

The series has been following a weekly release schedule since April 2026. Episode 18 will likely continue the story from where episode 17 left off, with the characters facing new tests in their quest to claim the inheritance.
