Fans of Manoj Bajpayee‘s spy thriller The Family Man have two big reasons to keep an eye on the franchise. The hugely popular Amazon Prime Video series may soon get a theatrical film version, and the fourth season is moving closer to production. A source close to the team has confirmed that both ideas are being actively explored, with season four taking priority before any big-screen plans take shape.
A Film Version Is Being Discussed
The team behind The Family Man is considering a jump to cinemas. HT City reported on September 23, 2026, that the idea of turning the series into a film has been around for some time. A source told the publication that the team is now actively working through the concept.
“The plans for The Family Man to be made into a film have been in existence for some time now. There is a thought in place, and the team is actively toying with the concept now,” the source said.
The report also made it clear that the film idea is not a reaction to Mirzapur‘s recent move into theatres. Mirzapur: The Film opened on the big screen and drew a strong box office response, which sparked conversations about other OTT hits following the same path. The source stated that The Family Man film plan has its own separate timeline.
Season 4 Comes First
Before any film moves forward, the team is focused on season four of the series. The basic storyboard for the new season is already ready. If everything stays on track, shooting is expected to begin in early 2027.
“The basic storyboard has been made for the fourth season. If all goes well, then the shoot will begin in early 2027,” the source added.
Series lead Manoj Bajpayee has also shared updates on season four. In a conversation with Variety India in early September 2026, he said that talks for the new season will begin soon.
“Talks will start happening soon. It’s quite flattering that it has become such a great franchise that each and every person, be it a child or an adult, keeps asking about it. Once the conversation about the fourth season starts, the script will be finalized, and then we’ll be called in to start prepping for it and give our dates.”
What We Know About Season 4
Season four will continue directly from the events of season three, which ended on a major cliffhanger. Creator Raj Nidimoru has said that seasons three and four were always planned as one continuous story. The previous season ended the way it did on purpose, leaving Srikant Tiwari‘s journey unfinished so it could carry into the next chapter.
Season three shifted the story to Northeast India. Srikant faced political tensions, a major government project, and personal struggles. The season also featured a crossover with Vijay Sethupathi‘s character from Farzi, expanding the shared universe created by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K.
Season four will stream exclusively on Amazon Prime Video, just like the previous seasons. Manoj Bajpayee is set to return as Srikant Tiwari. Priyamani, Sharib Hashmi, Ashlesha Thakur, Vedant Sinha, and Shreya Dhanwanthary are also expected to return. Jaideep Ahlawat and Nimrat Kaur are likely to play key roles as well.
How Season 3 Performed
Season three premiered on November 21, 2025, on Prime Video in India and more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. The season became Prime Video India’s most-watched series of 2025 during its launch week. It trended in the top five across more than 35 countries.
Jaideep Ahlawat joined the cast as the main antagonist Rukma, while Nimrat Kaur also stepped into a negative role. Darshan Kumar returned as Major Sameer, a Pakistani ISI agent.
The Show’s Journey So Far
The Family Man launched on Amazon Prime Video on September 20, 2019. It was created, written, and directed by Raj and DK. The show follows Srikant Tiwari, a middle-class Mumbai man who secretly works as a government intelligence officer for TASC, the Threat Analysis and Surveillance Cell.

The series originally had a very different plan. Raj Nidimoru revealed in June 2026 that the story was first written as a feature film with Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi in mind. “Chiranjeevi was our first choice for The Family Man,” Nidimoru said. “We initially wrote the story with him in mind and planned to make it a feature film. However, due to various reasons, the project later evolved into a web series”.

The creators also paused work on two films to focus on The Family Man. Raj Nidimoru told PTI that the decision felt risky at the time, but it paid off. “We had to pause on the film we were working on at that time, and the next film, and said we want to do long format,” he said.
