MBC’s upcoming psychological thriller The Perfect Lie has locked in its premiere date. The network announced on September 22 that the drama will debut on October 30 at 9:50 p.m. KST, airing every Friday and Saturday. Alongside the date confirmation, MBC shared photos from the drama’s first script reading, giving viewers an early look at the reunion of Yoo Yeon Seok and Seo Hyun Jin after a decade.
The drama marks the first time the two actors have shared the screen since the 2016 hit series Dr. Romantic. Their return as a pair has drawn significant attention from K-drama fans worldwide.
A Story Built On Two Opposite Memories
The Perfect Lie follows a man and a woman who give completely different accounts of the same memory. Their conflict begins after what appears to be a perfect first date. What follows is a fierce battle over the truth, with both sides refusing to back down.
Yoo Yeon Seok plays Min Joon Ho, a cardiothoracic surgeon and single father. His character is described as cold and precise when holding a scalpel but warm and caring toward his only son. The contrast between his professional composure and personal softness sits at the heart of the drama’s tension.
Seo Hyun Jin takes on the role of Kang Ji Sun, an elementary school librarian who becomes connected to Min Joon Ho through one of her students’ parents. Yoo Yeon Seok moved between warmth and coldness with ease, heightening the tension in the room. Seo Hyun Jin focused on the wide emotional range her character goes through as the story unfolds. The supporting cast also left a strong impression. Ok Ja Yeon plays Yeo Cheong and detective Lee Hwa Young. Im Sung Jae takes on the role of Lee Hwa Young’s husband and UDT officer Park Seok Gu. Kim Ji Hyun appears as Kang Ji Sun’s older sister and anesthesiologist Kang Ji Eun, while Lee Chun Hee plays Kang Ji Eun’s husband and Kang Ji Sun’s brother-in-law Kim Hyung Soo. Each actor brings a distinct presence to the mystery.
A Teaser That Sets Up A Tense Face-Off
The first teaser for The Perfect Lie arrived earlier in September, offering a brief look at the drama’s central conflict. The clip opens with Min Joon Ho and Kang Ji Sun on what seems like a perfect first date. They smile at each other, and the mood is light.
The tone shifts quickly. A voice-over from Kang Ji Sun says, “Overnight, the whole world changed as if it were a lie.” The scene cuts to what appears to be a police interrogation room. The two characters sit separately, giving conflicting versions of the same incident.
Kang Ji Sun insists, “I’m telling you, it’s not a lie.” Min Joon Ho responds, “It’s a misunderstanding,” before adding, “It makes no sense.” The teaser ends with an anonymous voice declaring, “Out of the two of you, the person who lied is you.”

The Perfect Lie is directed by Jo Young Min, who previously worked on the Netflix series You and Everything Else. The screenplay comes from Baek Jae Young. The drama is produced by Kakao Entertainment in partnership with Studio Lay Films. This marks Studio Lay Films’ first television production, adding extra interest to the project.
For global audiences, the drama is set to stream on Disney+, though MBC has not yet released a full list of international streaming platforms. Viewers in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, India, and other regions should check their local Disney+ listings closer to the premiere date. The drama will air on MBC in South Korea.
