Disney+ has given viewers their first proper look at ‘The Remarried Empress’, one of its biggest Korean productions to date. The streaming platform released the first teaser and character posters on August 26, offering a glimpse into the lavish imperial world of the upcoming fantasy romance series.
The series brings together a star-studded cast including Shin Min-a, Ju Ji-hoon, Lee Jong-suk and Lee Se-young. Based on the hit Naver Webtoon that has gathered nearly 3 billion views globally, the drama tells the story of an empress whose perfect marriage falls apart after her husband betrays her with a runaway slave.
The Teaser Sets Up a Story of Love and Revenge
The teaser opens with Empress Navier (Shin Min-a), the respected ruler of the Eastern Kingdom, sitting with the calm confidence expected of a queen. But behind the grandeur, her marriage to Emperor Sovieshu (Ju Ji-hoon) is already starting to crack.
Everything changes when Rashta (Lee Se-young), an escaped slave, enters their lives and finds herself at the centre of the imperial court. At first, Sovieshu appears certain about his marriage, telling Navier: “No matter what happens, you are my only wife”. But his growing feelings for Rashta soon complicate their relationship. In one moment, he admits, “I missed you Rashta”.

Shin Min-a looks every bit the poised and powerful empress, with her poster carrying the caption: “I request an approval of my remarriage.” Ju Ji-hoon carries the authority and confidence of an emperor, with his poster stating: “I must divorce the empress.” Lee Jong-suk brings a mysterious charm to Heinrey, the prince of the Western Kingdom, with the line: “It is an honour to meet you, My Queen.” Lee Se-young’s Rashta appears determined to make the most of her sudden rise within the royal court.

The series is adapted from Alphatart’s popular webtoon, which has garnered nearly 3 billion views globally. The story follows Navier, the Empress of the Eastern Kingdom, whose seemingly stable marriage takes a dramatic turn when Emperor Sovieshu falls for Rashta, a runaway slave.
When Sovieshu decides to divorce her, Navier agrees but not without making her own demand. She wants the right to marry Heinrey, the Crown Prince of the Western Kingdom. As Navier finds herself pushed aside by the man she once trusted, she refuses to let the divorce define her and instead sets out to take charge of her own future.
A Lavish Production from Disney+
‘The Remarried Empress’ has been adapted by Yeoh Geena and Hyun Choongyeol, with Cho Suwon at the helm. Cho has previously directed popular dramas including Still 17 and Pinocchio.
The drama is being touted as Disney+’s most expensive Korean production to date. Filming took place across several locations, including European palaces, while elaborate sets were built to bring the story’s grand royal world to life.
The 10-episode series will launch with four episodes on the first day, followed by two new episodes released every week. The series will wrap up on November 25.
