The next chapter of Ridley Scott’s acclaimed horror anthology series has locked in its debut. AMC+ and Shudder will release The Terror: Devil in Silver on Thursday, May 7, bringing a new nightmare to audiences with a six-episode limited run. The series will drop episodes weekly, with a linear broadcast on AMC scheduled later in the year.

The third installment shifts the setting from frozen expeditions and wartime camps to a psychiatric hospital where reality bends and something sinister lurks behind the walls. Based on Victor LaValle’s 2012 novel, this season introduces a new cast led by Dan Stevens as a man trapped in a system that wants to keep him inside.

A Wrongfully Committed Man Faces More Than Just Doctors

The story follows Pepper, a working-class moving man whose bad luck and quick temper land him inside New Hyde Psychiatric Hospital. He is wrongfully committed to the facility, described as “an institution filled with those society would rather forget.” Once inside, Pepper discovers the hospital holds dangers beyond the usual threats. Patients turn against each other, doctors carry dark secrets, and something worse may be living within the walls.

The official synopsis reveals that Pepper must face an “entity which thrives on the suffering within New Hyde’s walls” to find freedom. But the fight may show him that the worst demons live inside him. Karyn Kusama, known for Yellowjackets, directs the first two episodes and also serves as executive producer.

A Star-Studded Cast Joins Dan Stevens in the New Season

Stevens, who also executive produces, leads an ensemble packed with familiar faces. Judith Light, CCH Pounder, Aasif Mandvi, John Benjamin Hickey, Stephen Root, and Marin Ireland are among the names rounding out the cast. Michael Aronov, Chinaza Uche, Hampton Fluker, Hayward Leach, and Philip Ettinger also star in the series.

The production brings together heavyweights behind the camera. Ridley Scott executive produces alongside David W. Zucker and Clayton Krueger for Scott Free Productions. Chris Cantwell (Halt and Catch Fire) and Victor LaValle serve as writers and showrunners, adapting LaValle’s own novel for the screen.

What to Expect From This New Chapter of The Terror

This season marks a significant shift in setting for the anthology. The first season followed a British naval expedition trapped in Arctic ice while searching for the Northwest Passage. The second season, The Terror: Infamy, centered on a shape-shifting force inside a Japanese internment camp during World War II. Both seasons are currently available to stream on AMC+ and Shudder.

Courtney Thomasma, AMC Networks’ Executive Vice President of Linear and Streaming Products, explained why this new season fits the series’ identity. “The Terror: Devil in Silver represents everything we love about this anthology — a compelling real-life setting with a veil of supernatural dread, dynamic characters brought to life through powerhouse performances, and a suspenseful, emotionally gripping story that stays with you long after the credits roll,” she said.

The debut arrives right after Shudder’s annual Halfway to Halloween programming event, placing the horror series in front of a genre-focused audience.

Showrunner Chris Cantwell on Bringing Victor LaValle’s Novel to Life

Chris Cantwell spoke about the experience of adapting LaValle’s novel, calling it a deeply personal project. “Working shoulder to shoulder with Victor LaValle to bring his masterful novel to the screen has been an incredible experience, as his story is, yes — packed with death and horror — but also brimming with beauty and the flickering-yet-unassailable light of our fragile humanity,” Cantwell said.

He praised the writing team and Kusama’s direction, adding that the cast brings real emotional weight to the story. “The Terror: Devil in Silver is no different, as this cast — helmed with grace and strength by Dan Stevens — imbues every one of our characters with dimension, empathy, and soul. You will love these people who very much come from your world. You will grieve with them, cheer for them, laugh with them, and of course fear for their very lives,” Cantwell added.

Where and When to Watch The Terror: Devil in Silver

The six-episode season begins streaming on Thursday, May 7. Viewers in the United States can watch on both AMC+ and Shudder. New episodes will follow each week. The series will also air on AMC’s linear channel later in 2026, though a specific date has not been announced.

For audiences outside the US, AMC+ is available in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Spain, while Shudder operates in the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. International viewers should check local platform availability closer to the release date.

First-look images from the season have been released, showing Stevens in the role of Pepper alongside other cast members in what appears to be the grim setting of New Hyde Psychiatric Hospital.
