What Happens in The World Is Dancing Episode 11
Episode 11, titled “Komochizuki” (Small Hope Moon), begins the young adult arc of Oniyasha. The episode features the Imakumano June Festival, where Oniyasha steps onto the big stage for the first time.
Oniyasha watches his father Kan’ami perform the “Okina” dance, a sacred Noh performance. After the performance ends, Oniyasha and his group are granted an audience with the shogun. When Oniyasha meets Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu for the first time, he discovers that the shogun is someone completely unexpected.
Oniyasha’s stunning performance compels Zojiro to concede defeat. Yet the competition continues, and both performers are forced to face their own limitations.
The episode continues the story of the Kanze Troupe as they navigate the dangerous world of shogunate politics and artistic competition.
The Story So Far
The World Is Dancing is set in the year 1374, during the conflict between the Northern and Southern Courts in Japan. The story follows Oniyasha, a boy born into a family of sarugaku theater performers. He spends his days in quiet gloom, haunted by a simple question: “Why do people dance?”
Then one day, he witnesses a dance that he feels is “good” – and everything begins to change. This is the story of the boy who would one day shape the art of Noh and be remembered as Zeami.
Throughout the series, Oniyasha has faced numerous challenges. He has competed against rival troupes, with the losing troupe forced to forfeit the shogun’s patronage and disband. He has struggled to regain his confidence after losses. And he has had to accept the fate of those close to him.
The competition between Oniyasha and Zojiro has been a central focus. Both performers have been forced to face their own limitations. Despite the losses, Yoshimitsu’s deputy Hosokawa Yoriyuki has arranged for rematches to give Oniyasha time to prepare.
