VisionQuest has barely started its run on Disney+, and viewers have already found a small detail that could connect the series to Avengers: Doomsday. The Easter egg appeared in Episode 2, titled “Theseus”, and it has sparked a wave of theories about whether Paul Bettany’s Vision will appear in the next Avengers film. Marvel has not confirmed any such role, leaving fans to piece together clues from the show itself.
The Countdown to Doom Label in Ultrons Room
The detail sits inside Ultron’s upstairs apartment in Vision’s Mind Space. During a scene where the AI characters are reviewing information about Todd Stashwick’s Paladin on television screens, a close-up shot shows a DVD or CD case labelled “Countdown to Doom”. The label appears next to the control panel of the TV, making it easy to miss on a first watch.
James Spader returns as Ultron in the series, and the label sits inside his personal space. That placement has led some viewers to read it as a deliberate nod to Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, who is set to appear in Avengers: Doomsday in December. Others see it as a piece of set dressing that fits Ultron’s dark sense of humour.
What Fans Think the Label Means
Social media reactions have split between two main ideas. One group believes the label is a direct tease that Vision’s story will carry into Avengers: Doomsday. The other group treats it as a playful Easter egg with no larger plot purpose.
On X, one commenter wrote: “A countdown label reads more like set dressing than a story thread. If the show never pays off what hits zero, is that really a hidden clue or just an Easter egg for wiki editors?” Another asked: “Just a fun Easter egg or is this show gonna actually have some sort of build into Doomsday?”.
A separate theory ties the label to Wanda Maximoff. Some fans believe Doctor Doom could be holding Wanda somewhere with her memories erased, pointing to rumours about Latverian witches in Doomsday marketing. That theory remains unconfirmed and is based on comic book storylines rather than official plot details.
Marvel Has Not Confirmed Visions Doomsday Role
Paul Bettany has been asked directly about Vision’s future in the Avengers films. His answers have stayed playful rather than revealing. On Good Morning America, he said:
“I’m just trying to keep the kids in shoes, and if I tell you that, I’ll get fired. I’m just out there hustling”.
Bettany has also said he is “pretty sure” he will show up in either Doomsday or Secret Wars, but he stressed that Marvel could change its plans at any moment. Marvel Studios itself has not announced Vision, Tommy, or Billy as part of the Doomsday cast.
Where VisionQuest Fits Before Doomsday
VisionQuest is the final live-action Marvel series before Avengers: Doomsday, which arrives in theatres on December 18, 2026. The show follows White Vision as he searches for purpose after the events of WandaVision, with Ultron uploaded into his Mind Space. The series also introduces Ruaridh Mollica as Thomas Shepherd, an adult version of Tommy Maximoff.
The eight-episode season premiered on Disney+ on October 13, 2026, with the first two episodes released together. New episodes arrive on October 20, October 27, and November 3, before the finale on November 10. The finale lands just over a month before Doomsday reaches cinemas, which is why viewers are treating every frame of VisionQuest as a possible clue.

The DVD Case and Ultrons Screens
The Direct noted that Ultron’s screens are filled with footage of war and human conflict, giving the “Countdown to Doom” label a possible double meaning. It could reference the MCU’s march toward Doomsday, or it could reflect Ultron’s view that humanity is heading toward its own destruction. The Mind Space itself is built from recordings of past MCU events, including Vision’s memories with Wanda, so objects inside it can carry more than one layer of meaning.
For now, the label remains exactly what it looks like: a small prop in Ultron’s room. Whether it becomes a story thread or stays a background detail will depend on what the remaining six episodes of VisionQuest choose to do with it.
