What happens when you get rejected by a theatre group and later share the screen with a member of that same group? Wamiqa Gabbi faced this exact situation with Ayushmann Khurrana, and her funny reaction to an old rejection story is now making waves on social media.
The two actors recently worked together in the movie Pati Patni Aur Woh Do. During a promotional interview, a surprising fact came out. Wamiqa revealed that Ayushmann’s college theatre group, ‘Aaghaaz’, had once rejected her audition.
The video of their fun exchange has now become popular online. Ayushmann was recalling his college days in Chandigarh. He talked about his band and theatre group. He said, โI had a band and a theatre group, I was having a lot of fun in Chandigarh.โ Wamiqa then cut in and asked a direct question.
The Old Audition Story Comes to Light
Wamiqa asked Ayushmann which theatre group he meant. When he confirmed it was ‘Aaghaaz’, she dropped the news. โI auditioned for that theatre groupโฆ They rejected me,โ she said. The expression on Ayushmann’s face turned to mild embarrassment.
He was quick to defend himself. Ayushmann said, โI was not there at that time. My juniors must have rejected you.โ He tried to distance himself from the decision made years ago.
But Wamiqa was not ready to let it go. With a playful and sarcastic smile, she reacted to his reply. She then took a funny jab at the rejection. She said, โBut now we are doing a film together so f* y.โ She clarified her statement right after. She added, โI am saying this to your juniors and not to you, I love you.โ This showed it was all in good humor.

This incident highlights how life comes full circle. The actors, who both belong to Chandigarh, shared a comfortable dynamic on set. The ‘rejection’ did not stop Wamiqa. Years later, she found herself working alongside the actor whose group had once turned her away.
The movie was directed by Mudassar Aziz. The film was a spiritual sequel to the 2019 movie of the same name. It featured a star-studded cast including Sara Ali Khan and Rakul Preet Singh. The movie received mixed reviews from critics and had a tough time at the box office after its theatrical release in May 2026.
